Stopped by seeking admission information for our elderly father. Called first, but calls went unreturned. Then finally got a response asking to call back. We decided to drop by to talk in person. We were told that the admissions director was not in her office, After a few minutes, we could clearly see that she was. After going into her office and asking if she was the admissions director, We got the impression that our presence was some how not wanted. Not really sure why. Hope it wasn't race related. Also hope that race does not play a role in the admission process. If so, it would degrade the whole Quaker aspect of the facility.

In 2008 I chose to volunteer at Friends Home West in Greensboro, North Carolina as apart of my senior project and the goal of my project was to design a three-dimensional model of the ideal assisted-living community. This summer long experience allowed me to gain insight and valuable experience with a functional assisted-living facility. Friends Home was divided into three different living arrangements for senior citizens depending on senior citizen health, functionality and need assisted nursing care. I got to spend time and have conversations with senior citizens within every living area, but I spent most of my time working with individuals who required 24-hour attention and care. Depending on their health, we conducted exercise sessions, played games that stimulated healthy mind activity, and shared stories and jokes. My experience with Friends Home West was only a positive one and I gained a strong appreciation for not only the wealth of knowledge senior citizens have, but also for the importance of giving back and taking care of the elderly.
