My mother was a resident of Tore's Home. It's also where my father passed away. My mother ended up in the hospital for several days while she was a resident because she suffered from malnutrition and dehydration. My father was there at the same starting point and then he was diagnosed as needing hospice care and he died there on October 31st. It's a small residential home setting, which means you don't have any of the amenities or the activities of a larger facility. Particularly with Covid, residents are pretty much in their rooms. They have a common living room, but if you're living with six or seven other people who are non-communicative or staying in their rooms, there's no social interaction. The staff is not medically trained. They're not CNAs; there's no nurse. There is one supervisor-in-charge for all four buildings that has CNA licensure. The staff that provides the help with the activities of living daily also does the cooking. There's no choice of food. The food quality is very poor. My parents had a 2-bedroom unit with a shared bathroom. My mother stayed in that room after my father passed away. Because it had a connecting room with a bathroom, we ended up having to pay to keep his room or they would move a stranger in with her with a shared bathroom. We wouldn't have control if it was male or female or what-have-you. They don't have activities other than bingo.

My mother was at Tore's Home #21. They were great and it had a homey environment. They cared for their clients and they were attentive. I was impressed. She was more relaxed and it was quieter than where she was. They had activities, a large TV room, nice private rooms, a big kitchen, and a dining area. The food was commercially brought in, but you can keep the food in the refrigerator and the cabinets. The meals seemed nicely prepared and for those who can, they sit around the dining room table. The clients seemed to be there a long time. It's cost effective compared to other places.
