Red Oak is relatively small, but pretty clean. Some of the staff members are very friendly, and some are not too nice with the residents. My mom has a single room that's sort of like a studio, except that there's no kitchen. They have a van that can take people to appointments, but it hasn't been available on several occasions.

A friend suggested to check out Red Oak Assisted Living because her grandmother stayed there for about 10 years, so I thought it must be a good facility. As it turned out, it was a great facility. My mom loved the staff, she liked the food very much. I also tasted the food there and it was good. The facility was very clean and there were no foul-smelling odors.

I toured this facility last year. The place was pretty crowded with patients sitting in the hallway in wheelchairs and recliners. The walls and floors seemed grimy and all I could smell was urine. Although there were lots of staff members visible, it was hard to differentiate who was who, because they were all wearing all the same color scrubs. There was no one in the admissions office available, so a nursing assistant let us tour the facility. She was not able to answer our questions about medicaid. We saw the small dining room, but didn't get a chance to see rehab, any rec room or outside areas where the residents could get fresh air. Visiting hours were posted on the front door and were very limited. We didn't see a single "visitor" on our tour.
