I survived Camden
December 21, 2020
I stayed at Camden for 2 weeks after a bi-lateral knee replacement PRO's: Excellent Physical Therapy A few hidden gems among the staff CON's: No one answered the call button my first night there...no bathroom assistance...no medication...no nothing. And I could not walk. I had to throw things out my door and into the hall to get their attention. Once I had it I requested immediate discharge...the Director, Assistant Director, and another VIP person talked me into staying and gave me their personal numbers which ended up being a saving grace.

I was a patient there from February 28 until April 21. I have been in 3 rehabilitation facilities this is best by far. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. The atmosphere is great the workers are very pleasant and helpful. The therapy department is the best very pleasant and helpful. They offer a wide variety of activities, painting, bingo, movie night, ice cream socials ect. I wish my insurance would have paid for another 60-90 days I would have stayed. All of the management personnel are out to mingle with patients and family. Nurses are great although they like any other place are alittle under staffed but the past 3 weeks they have hired more aides. They provide transport to drs appointments. I can’t say enough about this place,if I ever need rehabilitation I’m going there. Food is excellent this place is like a country club.

My grandmother was left without care for 16 hours on her first day at Camden. She needed to get up to use the bathroom, she used her call button, and NO ONE came to help her for 16 hours. From the hours of 3 PM - 7 AM. She also can't get much response from anyone during the day for help when needing to go to the bathroom. She has to wait anywhere from 1-3 hours to get help. The administration/owners should be ashamed of themselves for operating this facility the way they do. This place shouldn't be open for business. They're just collecting checks and counting their money while doing nothing to help their patients. Would not recommend. If you can, get home care for those in your life who need it. Camden is awful.

it's the truth
I only give 1 star because it won't let me post with none. Care is very poor, not enough staff, medication errors, residents not getting changed often enough, facility smells. The staff they do have are stretched to their limits.

Camden Place is absolutely the best. I give them an A+. The staff are excellent and are dedicated to the care of the patient. They are professional and have a high standard of ethics. They have touched my heart and soul and I thank them from the whole of my being. I have been in four other facilities and this one excels far and above the others. I would not consider going anywhere else. Although I am happily back at home, I miss my room, my nurses, all of the physical and occupational therapists, the concerned administrative staff, and especially the wonderful assistants who brought warm happiness to my heart and put a smile on my face as I woke every morning to their energetic kindness. God Bless them, each and every one. The impact they all have made will remain with me for the rest of my days. Nancy Lamb

Even though I no longer live in Greensboro, I decided I would have my hip replacement surgeries in Greensboro because of the confidence I have in Dr. Matt O. He recommended Camden Place for my rehab.. I know why he recommends this facility. The physical therapy is top notch. I have therapy twice a day, including weekends. The therapists are professional, knowledgeable, caring and totally patient-centered. Not only have they taught me exercises but also safety precautions and dietary suggestions for healing. The atmosphere is positive and encouraging. All staff members are helpful and concerned to meet patient needs. I have stayed at Camden Place twice and I would recommend them to anyone needing rehabilitation.

Staff are very caring. They roll out the red carpet for you. The therapy is fantastic and they even have a chef who helps prepare meals.

My grandmother was there for 6 weeks recently following surgery. Some of the staff was very attentive during the week but on the weekends the staff ratio is terrible. You may wait 20 minutes before someone can come to assist with toileting. Trays are dropped off at bedside without any assistance. Wounds/bedsores were left untreated with feces on them. Very little communication with staff and therapy. The care was so lacking we paid to have caregivers stay most of the time. If this is a 4+ star facility I would hate to see the others.

I was in Camden for rehab after surgery. Rehab was great, nurses were very attentive. I was in terrible pain and they worked with me and got it under control. The food was good. The building was clean and free of odors with large rooms with private bathrooms with showers in them.

The only good thing here is the food. Once the night staff starts their shift beware because pushing the call button will not get you any assistance. Dinner trays will stay in the room overnight, because no one checks on you after 5:00 pm.

My stepfather went into this facility after he had a hip replacement. He is a sufferer of polio and one of his legs is paralyzed. So, he spent about 5 weeks at Camden Place. The rehab team of physical therapists was very good. They worked with him and encouraged him at every step of the way. If I were just rating the rehab, I'd give the facility five stars. Unfortunately the support staff, particularly the social worker (Babetta) was incompetent. I was assured that before he was discharged, they would do a thorough discharge plan, including going to his home to make sure he could manage by himself. (My mother is elderly and unable to help and I live in another state). This did not happen. He was discharged without any assistance. Once home, he had the wrong wheelchair (one he could not use to get in and out of bed) and was bed ridden for 7 days. Although a physical therapist came, she could do nothing until the proper equipment was ordered. Had they done their job and checked this out ahead of the discharge, everything would have gone smoothly. Meantime he's had a setback and must regain the strength he lost after 7 days in bed and unable to get out. BTW, he had to call the EMT's for help on at least 2 occasions. The facility director should take a long look at these reviews and hold those staff responsible for the trouble they cause. My stepfather did everything he was supposed to do and now he must struggle to regain the progress he made. It's a tragic thing.

Stay away from this place unless it is a simple PT issue. The PTs are great, but if the patient has any other issues, or if they are not with it mentally, beware. Some of the nurses are rude,(one actually lectured me that me and 2 my brothers who were visiting my mom represented "too many chefs in the kitchen"). Communication is abysmal and response times are absurdly slow. For those patients who can't care for themselves and who have to rely solely on the staff's care, this place can be a house of horrors.

The care for what I needed was good. Their physical therapy was excellent, and the food was good. The only thing that I complained about was the time it took sometimes to get your light answered. They didn't have a desk where the call button would show up; they had to depend on the light outside your door. Sometimes, they would be short of help, and that could be a problem, but they've worked on that and I think overall Camden Place did very well. The staff was very good especially the physical therapy and occupational therapy -- actually that was excellent. They were very clean. They used to clean the room everyday, and they had what they call deep cleaning where they come in and get you out and really clean deeper than they can with you in the room, and I thought that was impressive. They listened to all the complaints.

My mother went to Camden after hip surgery and had a great experience. Therapy staff were all great! The facility is clean and staff were all very pleasant and took great care of her. Food was acceptable given the many dietary needs of the entire building. Care was given in a timely manner. Staff/patient ratio was good overall. I would recommend Camden to other family/friends. My mother was please and felt safe and secure throughout her stay and has already decided to go there again.

Facility is very clean and very inviting. RNs, CNAs were really good. Physical therapy and occ therapists were good overall. The administrative end is very disconnected and in my opinion incompetent for the job titles they are assigned. They lack knowledge of insurances and have no connection with families or the patients. Their billing practices are in my opinion questionable and should be reviewed. It takes up to 60 days to have a claim processed with your insurance company but they expect you to pay copays up front even when out of pocket expenses have been met and then wait on a refund. I don't think so. Not impressed. So sad to see

The place needs to close and all the residents need to go somewhere else so they can get the care they deserve. Most of the CNA's are there for a paycheck only and no care nor interest for the residents. They let their residents sit in their waste. They always say they will come back and they think 30-45 minutes is sufficient or longer. They don't know how to operate a hoyer lift. They talk rude to the residents. They rather keep the residents drugged up so they don't have to tend to them. Director of the facility needs to rethink a profession-she's in the WRONG field. The call bell/light serves no purpose- they come in, shut it off and leave. During all meal times give or take a hour or two- no residents can be tended to because they have to serve and feed the patients- so if anyone needs to go to the bathroom or need any assistance- they have to wait and then its too late. Protect your loved ones- GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. IT's clean but that's about it

The only good thing about this place was the rehab. The other 23 hours were a nightmare!! Here are just some of the examples: Left bedside potty chair in the room for more than 24 hours without emptying it. Never fixed the light so the patient could turn the light off after the CNA or nurse came in in the middle of the night and left it on. Call button for room malfunctioned throughout stay. First night in Camden from hospital left patient on the potty chair 35 minutes even after screaming for help. Patient fell trying to get up. I have a pictures of the bruises on the operative leg.

This is a very clean, nice smelling, pleasant atmosphere with competent, caring staff. My mother was there for 2 weeks for rehab from a knee replacement because my father could not care for her in there home as he has moderate stage dementia. The transition to the rehab center from the excellent, timely, well scheduled care we had experienced at Wesley Long Hospital was rough. It took Camden Place a few days to get my moms meals, meds and therapy in sync. I think the CNAs and Physical Therapists were competent and caring. The problem seemed to center around a kitchen that could not get the meals out in time to get the medicine in patients in time for them to make some of their rehab/therapy appts. At least that was our experience. The tile floors and sound system/speakers in the hallways make the place pretty noisy so I would recommend a sound machine or small fan to create some white noise. I think Camden Place is probably one of the top 2 or 3 in Greensboro...I would just recommend you have a family member there for the first 12 hours of transition from hospital. Our discharge planning meeting went well while we were in the meeting but the Social Worker at Camden dropped the ball and there was a delay in my mom's in - home rehab care...which was a setback of a 1 or 2 in her recovery. Be watchful for the transition to home as well. Be watchful, be an advocate and speak up and ask for what you need! They were accommodating when asked.

My dad is 94 years old. He has been in Camden Place Health and Rehab for over three years now. It's overly priced for the care that he has been given. I don't like where he's at; they don't do a good job there. They charge a lot of money but they don't take care of him. The staff is not interested in helping the residents. They're just there to gather a paycheck. My dad wears Depends and they're supposed to come in every two to two and a half hours, but sometimes they don't come in for like five hours. My dad had a horrible rash that was bleeding and the woman that's supposed to bathe him at night said he didn't have a rash. We had an infectious disease nurse in for him and she knew all about it, but this nurse that bathed him said he didn't have a rash when we knew he did. She stood there with the one of the executives and the executive said, "Well, she said he doesn't have a rash." So their executives are not open to criticism at all. They're not there for the families. They also had issues with ants in his room and his bathroom. They sprayed in his room but they needed to take care of the problem outside. It was a big thing. There were holes in my father's sheet. It's horrible! Once I've called the housekeeper to come in to clean the bathroom because it smelled like urine. Also the food here is not adjusted for the elderly residents who either have false teeth or have a hard time chewing or residents who don't have the mobility to cut their foods. Definitely, I would never recommend this place! I would have gotten my father out of there two years ago, but there are six children and they didn't want to move him. Plus with his age, it is a little difficult to move him at this point.

Camden Place was wonderful. My grandmother had an amazing stay there. She was a very independent woman and had lived on her own for about 30 years, so going to Camden Place, even if it was just temporary, was a huge adjustment for her, and I can't say she wanted to leave her home. However, through things like service animals visiting, crafts, and bingo she was able to enjoy her time. Also, there was an outside area, in the middle of the facility, that was a great area to let her sit and enjoy when the weather was nice. The rooms were nice and spacious and had areas (closet/dresser) to put your clothes and other items. The staff was very nice and put up with us (the family) for days because we chose to stay with my grandmother for a few days until she go settled. We would watch the nursing staff and make sure they administered her medicine appropriately and helped her go to the bathroom. This didn't bother the staff at all and they were very friendly. Overall, it is a great place with great workers!

This facility has plenty of everything and I mean everything. Walk-around room, amenities, activities and so forth. The grounds were very well kept and the inside of the building was impeccable. The staff was nice and knowledgeable except for a couple of instances where they seemed a little timid. One certain instance had a patient nearly fall but a caretaker was nearby to save her fall. I would say there was a room of about 5 elderly patients and there were about the same number of caretakers. I love those odds. I really did not have the cahnce to walk around but from what I could see everything looked wonderful.
