The Haven is a home in a nice neighborhood with about six residents and, at least, has 2 full-time helpers all the time. It is very calm. When we visit my mom, it is like visiting her in a house instead of a big institutional facility. I liked it much better than the bigger ones that she has been in. They provide all the assistance and medical management for her prescriptions. They have some exercise and physical therapy folks that come several times a week. It has worked out very well for her. They have some activities; they don’t have activities every hour on the hour like the bigger places do, but that was not so attractive after my mom lived in bigger, more institutional places. She said, “We do everything as a group here -- we do every meal as a group, we do every activity as a group, and we go to the bathroom as a group.” My mom has had enough of all of that. It seems much more individual living at a house, and they are more flexible. When they need help, they have more time for each resident. They have home-cooked meals, and you can smell the food cooking in the kitchen.
