My mother is in a nursing home. She can take care of her most intimate needs, but often refuses to. She might poop in her bed or refuse to eat. She absolutely will not do physical therapy. She is obstinate and unkind to the staff. She has derogatory names for many of them. The people who take care of Mother are kind and do a good job. They get upset with her, but always remain professional and go out of their way to accommodate her desires and demands. They keep her clean. The facility is clean and they constantly support her to get involved in more activities and social options and treat all her visitors well. Some of the furniture is rather old, and the food isn't all that healthy or tasty, but everyone does the best they can with the opportunities available. Also, the facility has been remodeled within the last year.
