Lots to say about my stay at Avantara as a short term skilled rehab facility. Calling this place skilled is an over statement. It is a nursing home that offer temporary placement. The aids and nurses while are well meaning are not skilled or trained for rehab needs. Although nurses failed to read my admit orders if they had it would have helped me get the care I needed, instead of saying oh I did not know that, I had to dig down into your chart to find the orders. The first day there the bed I had did not work. Which was ok as a different bed was brought into the room but after a few tries it too did not work. The CNA took my bed remote and while trying to figure it out was raising and lowering the head of the bed with no warning, raising me sup and down at a fast pace after having a total hip replacement causing me pain with each movement. They then got me out of the bed to replace this bed with another and put me in a wheelchair with no leg support so I had to hold my own leg up off the floor. For some reason there was no room for the aid to get behind me so she instead grabbed my leg that I had surgery on and began to pull and steer the wheelchair with that leg. Many of the staff do not wear ID badges so it is difficult to tell who is who. When I asked my night aid why the major do not wear badges he said it is not required. The food was awful slop the first few days but seemed to improve to eatable until the last morning where you could literally pick up your egg with your fingers and bang it against your plate and your oatmeal was a cold hard ball. Besides the lack of skilled care and properly working equipment, no one came into to clean the room the entire week I was there and the rooms are drab and depressing grey. But the worst experience I had during my stay is when I was taken by ambulance to The ER for a suspected blood clot. After finding no clot I was set to go back to Avantara but the ambulance said my insurance would not cover it the ER called Avantara and was told by the nurse that they had no way to get me and I needed to find my own way back to Avantara. Leaving me outside the ER with no way back. Now as a patient of Avantara it was their response to make sure I got back by ambulance and they cover the bill but the nurse did not let anyone know that and told them I needed to get my own transportation back to Avantara. I called a family member to get me and needless to say the transporting me from a wheel chair into a vehicle with hip surgery was dangerous and painful as neither of us knew what we were doing and left my leg dangling with no support at all. I think this action by Avantara could be considered patient abandonment. They were obligated to make sure I got back to the facility safely but did not even try. The case manager did come and talk to me after but nothing was really paid attention to until a family member wrote a review then she came in stern and rather irritated. I requested to see the case manager twice on my last day before discharge but she never showed up. I was not surprised. Again I believe the staff do the best they can with the training and equipment they have but the higher ups will try to sell you a pretty package of the care one would get there but it is safe to say the money they get from insurance is not invested back into the patient care peril of the facility.

At Avantara Billings, the staff were really easy to work with. The food wasn't good, and that's about the only complaint I have about them. It was a very clean facility. I never got to see the bedroom due to the Corona. We weren't allowed to go back. I used to visit my sister up there every week; she was there for about two months. Their dining room was close due to Corona, so they were delivering all the meals right to the rooms.

Very dirty. Under staffed. Rude employees. Complaints to management ignored. Wouldn't send my worst enemy there.

The place is horribly dirty. The food is horrible. Very very short staffed family members call light was on for 2 1/2 hours. When you make a complaint the management does nothing about it they have no social worker at the time the place has gone downhill I wouldn't even put my dog there.

This facility runs short of staff 3/4 of the time. The floors in the rooms are dirty. All around the baseboards is collected dirt. They know when the STATE is coming a week ahead of time. Things change very fast when that happens. The CNA's are worked to death because of short staffing. Patients with call lights going and no answer.

My father has been receiving care and treatment at Billings Health and Rehab for the past several weeks. Although we didn't have any other option--there were no beds available at other facilities--he has made remarkable progress in his recovery, primarily because he likes the staff. Prior to taking him to Billings Health and Rehab my dad had been hospitalized in another city for heart problems and dementia. He is getting the therapy he needs to be able to care for himself, physical therapy to improve his fitness and he is learning to manage his diabetes. If he continues to need assisted living or nursing care, I hope they find a more permanent room for his there. Our familys' experience with the staff has been extremely positive. The facility is clean, bright and hospitable. I would recommend Billings Health and Rehab to others seeking skilled care.
