About This Community

The Orchard is the Jackson area's only full-service private Continuing Care Retirement Community that does not require a buy-in. Nominated "The Best of the Best" in 2021, The Orchard has been Mississippi's premier senior community for over 30 years and maintains a reputation of sophistication and elegance in accommodation, community and care. Our residents have been leaders in their civic and professional roles and enjoy a comfortable and compassionate retirement. They can age-in-place without worrying about the next steps- from Independent apartments with high ceilings, patios/balconies and the largest closets in town, to a variety of Assisted Living accommodations and skilled nursing care. Independent apartments can also be customized by the resident and The Orchard is happy to partner when personalized updates are requested. Covered parking, shuttle services, storage units, a wide range of activities and several dining options provide for an easier transition from a lifelong home to our full-service retirement community.

In response to overwhelming demand, The Orchard also offers residential opportunities in the newly expanded Memory Care community affectionately called The Rose Garden. This state-of-the-art building offers a serene and spacious environment full of natural light as well as beautifully appointed, expansive courtyards. Most importantly The Orchard prides itself on compassionate, consistent care of residents.

My sister is a resident at the nursing home side of The Orchard, but we toured the assisted living side of it so she could transfer there when she gets better. The person who gave us the tour was a real professional and she laid out all the information - price, availability, and the different options for accommodations. We looked at a deluxe 1-bedroom apartment and it just looked good. My sister is excited about it. They have a barber/hair salon in-house. They would provide 3 meals a day. You could have it in your room or at the restaurant. It is located in a nice setting with trees. I think all the apartments have a view. What's good about this facility, which drew us to it, is its full service. It has independent living, assisted living, nursing home, and memory care.

The Orchard was OK. It's just that the price was a little bit much. And then one of the rooms that I saw I didn't particularly care for how it looked. It was more like 1500 to 1800 dollars more. So that was too much for us to pay. The staff was pretty good. The staff was nice and friendly, and showed us the rooms and everything that they had there. We did not eat there, but we did look at the menu, and it looked good.

I visited The Orchard for my husband. It was updated and refreshing. The rooms are very nice and up to date. The staff was nice. The dining area was very upscale. They said they had activities, but I did not see them. They say they have bingo, and she said something about hair and nails. They also have an outdoor place that they can go to.

Recently my wife and I were given a tour of the facility and were very impressed by what we saw. The buildings, particularly the new Rosebud Memory Care Center, were bright, airy and fresh with artwork and flowers providing a cheerful atmosphere. The staff we met were friendly, professional and appeared to really care for their patients. We were provided lunch and the food was excellent and plentiful. During the luncheon several current residents approached us and seemed to be happy with their accommodations. Overall we were glad we visited The Orchard as we plan for our future.

The entry is welcoming and the decor light and cheerful. The dinning area and food both feel like a nice restaurant. The staff were so friendly and happy you felt like it was an evening out with friends.

The Orchard had a very warm inviting feel. However, the apartments were older, and the facility itself was kind of showing its age. There were some stains on the carpet and the hallways. It's a little bit dated, but other than that, it was nice. The dining area was nice. There were antiques and oriental rugs. It feels a little bit elegant, but it's getting old. The staff was very helpful and took plenty of time, as much time as we needed, and offered a lot of advice, even offered to contact her with other questions about long-term care insurance or whatever. They have activities, a beauty parlor, and a courtyard. The dining area was large, very elegant, and sort of formal.

The Orchard is the only private full service continuing care retirement community in the Jackson area that has rental units (rather than having to purchase or pay a big move-in fee). They offer large Independent Living apartments with high ceilings and large closets. Many units have balconies or patios. The Assisted Living units are also spacious and can suit singles or doubles. The Skilled Nursing wing is very clean and well staffed. The Memory Care is expanding to accommodate the wait list and to offer services to men (currently they only take women in Memory Care. It is a very sweet and nurturing environment. The facilities are a little dated but they are kept spick-and-span. It feels like a home for older residents rather than some newer places that are decorated more like modern hotels. The residents are very sophisticated and are dressed in lovely outfits with jewelry and lipstick. They are engaged and love to chat! The staff is professional and caring. The Director is a busy woman but she knows everyone's name and story. She capably arranges for a large variety of activities and church services. The chef is very talented; but the residents seem to request meals that aren't particularly contemporary. They seem to like things that are more traditional. The wait service is gracious and the meals are served on white table cloth. The desserts are homemade and I think there is always a variety of ice-creams as an option.

The food here is awful. Many don't like the food but are afraid to complain.

We did go to The Orchard for my mother. We found it to be not pleasing. It seemed old to us. It seemed like it hadn’t been maintained in a while. I only talked to the people in the office and they seemed to be very nice. They’re very accommodating. I like the staff. We like the location; it was close to everything.

My friends are in The Orchard. One has one-bedroom apartments. The dining room is attractive. Their breakfast is buffet and their evening meal is a large buffet. The meal at noontime is a seated luncheon; that's what I am told. I think they probably have activities, but it has not come up in our conversation.

My wife has a friend that lives at The Orchard, that's how I've come across it. Also, it is a pretty well-known assisted living and independent living facility in the area, which is close to where we live. They showed me a really nice apartment arrangement with two bedrooms, two baths, a living room and a dining room. They have different facilities depending on your personal needs. The facility was very clean; it looked nice. The access to meals was very close. The staff took us on a nice tour and showed us menus. We just kind of like the whole atmosphere. They were very cooperative. Also, food looked very tasty. The dining room was excellent. Overall, I like the convenience of the dining room to the rooms, I like the size of the rooms, and I like the location. Also, they have plenty of opportunities for participation, i.e., bridge, exercise facilities and all that. They have pretty much anything you want to do. In terms of living environment, the grounds were well kept and their courtyard was really nice.

This is a facility that only accepts long-term care insurance and self-pay. It is an above- average nursing home, generally clean, and well-staffed. But for the cost of care there, I would expect them to employ well-trained nurses' aides to attend to the patients and to have more uniform standard operating practices for all their employees. This has not been my experience so far. On the whole, however, the nurses are kind, the aides are friendly, and whenever we have had issues, they have been quick to resolve them for us.
