We've moved my father-in-law to The Blake at Biloxi. They are very attentive to detail. The place is exceptionally clean. They have lots of activities available for the veterans. His room is beautiful. They don't come furnished, so you get to put your personal touches on them, which was nice. It's like he has his own room at home. The place is very updated, very nice, and very high-end looking. The food is as good as any local restaurant you go to. We visit and have lunch with him often, and it's phenomenal. They have a chef there, and he's really good. They do movie nights, they have a piano in there, and they have singers come in and do entertainment on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. They have a bus that will take them to local restaurants during the day to go eat. They have a sign-up sheet to go to Walmart if they want to. They have Silver Sneakers, or whatever it's called, where they do some exercise thing. Each month, they'd explore different countries, so all the decorations and all of the events will be things about Greece or Italy or Taiwan, or whichever country they want. It's pretty interesting how they do that. And they involve the residents in all of that.

My mother is at The Blake at Biloxi. It's assisted living and it also has a memory care unit. It's brand new. It has a great security, and it's all electronic. Everyone has to check in and check out. They also check for COVID every time you come in the community. Inside is white, bright, totally high ceilings, and everything's super open. They have hallways that are twice as large as you normally think. They have railings for you to hold on, benches everywhere if you need to sit, there's a cafe, an entry seating area, a physical therapy room, and an activity room. Upstairs is a huge media/activity room. They have their own chapel, a couple of outdoor areas with TVs and seating and ceiling fans, a piano bar area, and their food is set up like a restaurant. You go in, you sit down at a table and someone comes and takes your order. You wear a little monitor, so if you need help, you press your button and someone has to come within 15 minutes. They have nursing on-staff, physical therapists on-staff, they also will assist in medication, and they also have a PA that if you have a minor medical issue, such as a sinus infection or something like that, you can have it treated on the facility. They have a van three days a week and you can sign up to take you to doctor's appointments or the grocery runs to Wal-Mart or a drugstore, in addition to a full month of onsite activities and offsite outings. Everyone was super accommodating. I called and the staff called me back within 10 minutes. She got me in for a tour of the property the next day. My mom was very reluctant initially and when my mom said, "This is what I want to do and this is where I want to be," I texted the coordinator. She called me back once again within 10 minutes. She knew I was flying in and I needed to fly out quickly because I was having surgery. She was like, "If you guys want to come in the next day, tomorrow morning, Sunday morning and complete the process, you can do that." They got her in the facility in two weeks instead of a couple of months. They took into consideration my needs as well as my mom's needs because they knew I needed to have her somewhere safe and comfortable before I had to take care of my health. They invited us to come for a lunch, so we came in and had lunch one day. They have a system where every day for lunch and dinner, there's a special that you can pick. Then there's an ala carte menu, which basically is the same every day. You can get a sandwich and a hamburger. There are five things to pick from that are ala carte every day if you don't want the special. There are three salad options and desserts. If you pick an ala carte, you can pick anything off the daily special to go with it. While we were there, there was a lady that whatever she ordered, she didn't like, so they took it back and brought her something different. You could have as much food as you want. You don't have to just have the daily special. If you wanted them to bring something else, they would bring that in addition. You have to be seen at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even if you don't want to go down and eat, you can go down to the counter and order it to go to your room, but you have to go down and do that so they can physically see you. For my mom, someone comes to the door and gets her. If you are unable like my mom's in a wheelchair, they show up as soon as the service starts and they come to get her and push her down. My mom loves everyone in the facility. She said all of the workers are super nice. They have a huge range of services. As soon as I walked in the door, I was blown away. I told my mom, "I would move there today." The activities are good and they come and get my mom. They encourage her to get out. It's a little expensive, but no other facility I looked at was as nice.
