Big Don
I will be a resident here at MVH for a year shortly. I have been a resident at other facilities and they could not be qualified to open the door for the STAFF here at MVH. twenty-four seven a full staff is on duty providing care for those in their charge. STAFF is professional, helpful and well qualified in their duties. Rooms are very clean, and climate controlled, two veterans to a room. Female Veterans are in included also in smaller numbers. Many activities are provided BINGO being number one , provided by the many service organizations, who provide BBQ's, and other activities.
Social Services and Recreation Services takes those who need something extra to Walmart as well as Dinners out, I love it here and MVH meets my needs.

Sometimes I feel that the residents are just a number at Missouri Veterans Home. My husband’s in the Alzheimer’s unit, and the doors are locked, which I understand, but some of those people who have Alzheimer’s need to have something to do besides sit in a chair and watch TV. There’s not a lot of activities except to throw a ball or something like that. They have a tendency just to let these people sit. If they get upset, they give them medicines. I think they need two different types of units for Alzheimer’s patients. They need a unit for the ones that are really bad and another unit for those who are able to get up and do puzzles or things like that, which I don’t see happening. I think it’s really sad because these guys have given so many years for our country, and they’re not getting the service that I feel they deserve. They do not allow hospital beds in the Veterans Home and Missouri has the "no fall" law, so they’re allowed to fall. One of the guys down there has broken his hips twice in the last eight months. These are things that people don’t know are happening in these homes, and it’s really sad.

I believe the care center has provided EXCELLENT care for my widowed grandfather. He seems happy and has plenty to keep him busy. The center works very well with the family and frequently plans family fun activities where even the great-grand kids can participate!
Facilities are always clean and the caregivers seem very kind.
Save our Veteran homes! Our Veterans deserve it!
