My mother was in The Westchester House for rehab. The place is understaffed, and the employees are overworked. Most of the help is from an agency, they couldn't care less, they're there to get a paycheck. Portions of the place smelled and they made no effort to bathe mom while she was there. She was pretty much ignored, except for when food was brought in or out. I don't have many nice things to say about the place. Mom said it was pretty okay. She said the night aides were mean, she ended up falling off the bed and ended up transported in an ambulance back into the hospital, because one of the aides left the bed up with no rails on it. She laid on the floor for hours until she was found the next morning. And tried to transport her to the hospital's emergency room but did not call me nor my brother that she was not there anymore, it was the hospital that called us. Their contract workers were awful. The night I went there, when they transported her from the hospital over there, it was like seven o'clock at night. I rang the bell, this girl let us in. I asked her what the visiting hours were, she said she didn't know, I asked for something else about the facility and she said she didn't know. And then she said, "I don't work here." And she's in scrubs answering the front door. She said, "I'm agency" and walked off down the hall. We followed her to where mom's room was and a nurse was sitting at a desk on a computer. She said, "They're here to see Mrs. Crawford." We stood there for like 10 minutes, but the woman never acknowledged us, never turned around, and looked at us. So we just walked off and went into my mom's room. I never saw anybody come in and check on her or anything, I went out in the hall looking for people, and couldn't find anybody. So that was an interesting place.

My mother was transported to Westchester House from hospital for rehab. Within 48 hours she was transported to another hospital, covered in extensive bruises. The night and weekend staff here leaves a lot to be desired. Most are unaware or unable to articulate of following process and procedures. This facility received all of her records from hospital, called me when she arrived, wrote down my & my brothers contact information on the night she arrived when I was there, yet transported her to hospital and NEVER called us. When I finally spoke to a remote supervisor I was told they didn't have any emergency contact info for her. Really? They managed to call me and took my info when I arrived. I still wonder how long mom lay on the floor before she was discovered. The only thing she did when I saw her at the hospital was say the night people were 'mean, mean,mean' and she was afraid of them. Needless to say, she won't be returning there. I wish I could post the pictures of her bruised body - shoulders, arms, back down past her waist covered in bruises. A fall risk. Someone obviously did not put the bed down or the rails up -- which I did witness when I walked in there on Saturday. The bed was up as high as it could go. There is no way she fell off a bed a foot off the ground and did this kind of damage. Transporting and not calling to tell of injuries was so wrong on so many levels.

I was in this facility for acute care after a massive reconstructive surgery on my knee. How this place passes itself off as an acute care facility, I have no idea. It is not. It is a nursing home, plain and simple. And not a very good one. Eleven years ago, I had the same surgery on my other knee, and this place was very nice. So when I had to get this procedure again, I chose The Westchester House. Big mistake. They want to blame CoVid for their drastic decline, I get it. But the problems there run far deeper than that. The facility is very run down, drafty, and dirty, the food is awful, and they are beyond understaffed. There are serious safety concerns. The admin seems to be extremely subpar. The physical therapy was inadequate for a young patient like me. I had a few really great compassionate nurses and CNA’s helping me. For them only, I would give 5 stars. But there were several others who were horrendous. I could go on for hours about the things I saw and felt. The fact that I was only able to get one shower the whole time there because they were too understaffed to adher to the shower schedule...the person who snuck in my room one night and went straight towards my personal belongings, and was scared off when I asked what they wanted...the fact that I went 3 nights with no sleep because it was too drafty in my room and there were patients around me yelling and hollering all night...the fact that they kept admitting patients even though they didn’t have the necessary staff to care for them...Suffice to say, my prescribed amount of time was supposed to be 30 days, but I checked myself out after 13. It’s not a good place. I recommend you steer clear, for your own sanity.

The reason why my husband went into The Westchester House was because he needed peritoneal dialysis. His nurse from the dialysis clinic went over to try and train the staff, but the people there didn't have masks and they didn't wash their hands, so I was just horrified. Their dialysis is not good. They seemed to be good in just their nursing care. He was in an acute rehab center there, but nobody could get him back to being strong enough to use his walker. Some of the nursing staff was very good and very attentive, but others were not. It would depend on which nurse he had that day. You could tell that the building itself was getting old and probably wasn't maintained as well as it should have been. We didn't have to pay for it because Medicare paid for it.

I do not recommend this place if you need anything above and beyond basic care. This facility has a total communication break down from the administration all the way down to the dietary dept. Both of my parents have dementia & the staff is only trained to give the residents the bare minimum care. Any dietary changes result in total confusion. We also never sat down to establish a formal care plan, which is absurd after speaking with other nursing homes. We will be moving them as soon as possible. They have been at this facility for almost 3 months now.
