My mother stayed at Armour Oaks Senior Living for about five years. We chose independent living, and then she moved over to the assisted living. The independent living there was beautiful. It was excellent. The staff was excellent. On special occasions, they had really good food. The activities were excellent as well. They had family activities once a month, and they were excellent. They had a really beautiful room for families to get together and have dinners with the residents. They had a big television room, a pool table, and a church facility.

The most I liked most about my tour of Armour Oaks Senior Living was the beautiful setting. The building was old but it was beautiful, it just had a feeling of history about it. The person who gave us the tour seemed very helpful. We saw their dining room and the patient rooms, and I liked the layout of the place. The bedroom sizes were very small, it was probably the smallest of all places that we saw. The facility looked clean to me. There are a lot of nearby facilities including hospitals, restaurants, and shopping.

Armour Oaks Senior Living's studios are pretty much like a bedroom-sized studio with a bathroom. It seemed like it was a nice campus and everybody was nice, and I talked to some of the residents and everything. So we could be leaning towards that. The staff was all very nice, and it seems like they keep it pretty clean for as old as the building is. I think it's pretty cool that it's a historic building, and I like the way the campus is set up. The residents that I spoke to, seem to be pretty content. They were very accommodating and answered any questions. They even let me take pictures of the room to show my mom and everything, so I was pretty impressed with that. There are still some questions I thought of after the fact. I filled out everything that Armour Oaks needed to start the ball rolling. I think it's pretty centrally located. I was impressed with how they spoke to me, they didn't hesitate to answer my questions, and helped me understand everything. So far, so good, from what I could see. They showed me two different rooms that my mom could stay in.

I had toured Armour Oaks Senior Living before. Because of the virus we were supposed to do a virtual tour, but everything was the same. The staff just sent me several pictures also, and it was just the same when I visited. They were very helpful though. The staff who assisted me was very nice. I didn't get to see any residents. The apartments were small, but doable for someone who's by themselves. It was basically two rooms; it wasn't an apartment. It was just a room that you could put a bed and maybe a TV in there, the living room area, which was the bigger room, then the bathroom off the bedroom.

Armour Oaks' price was too high for me. They also wanted a higher deposit. They had all levels of care. I was interested in the one-bedroom with a kitchen area and a washer and dryer. However, I called them five times before they called me back.

I visited Armour Oaks, and I think I am more mentally active than the residents there, and my kids said that they were afraid that the people were too old for me. I'm going on 71, but my mind is younger. My visit was very nice. They showed me a couple of different areas. It's more expensive at $2,600 a month. I felt like it was for people who were more in need of care than myself. It was more like an apartment building, where you go on an elevator to get to your apartment. They allow smoking; I'm a smoker, but I would have to go take my dog, go down the hallway, get on the elevator, go down to the main floor, go outside, and have a cigarette and let my dog out. It's a very nice place. I just want my own space. I like the idea of having an outside entry, so that's not available. It's just not for me.

We were in the lobby of Armour Oaks assisted living. It was a much older building, and I was not impressed with it. It was rather old , probably a 1940 vintage or something. It just seemed dark, and the architecture back then was different. We didn't tour the assisted. We toured the independent living area, and we were impressed with it. The rooms seemed larger and there was more living area square footage wise. I like the size of the rooms. The place was impressive.

The nursing, security, and dietary are dedicated and kind to my mother and other residents. They were quick to follow up to questions and concerns. The housekeeping inside the apartments is an area in need of strengthening. Otherwise, presentation is good for guests, visitors, and residents. I have much gratitude for the Armour Oaks.

Armour Oaks is an awesome place to live. The quality of care is great. I like all my nurses and staff. They are very helpful, and they really care of us residents. My family feels safe with me being here. It’s a great place to live.

Armour Oaks Senior Living Community was dark and dingy, and if you put your parents here, you would feel like you put them in a dungeon. It was very old and outdated. The only thing good there was that they had a Medicare spend down, but other than that, I couldn't really say much about them. I didn't like anything about that place. They need to modernize a little bit.

Armour Oaks has a good neighbourhood, and it’s relatively convenient to where I live. It’s an older but quiet neighborhood, and the physical property itself has a lot of vintage charm. The rooms are smaller than I would have liked. They have private bathrooms, and the particular room that my aunt ended up moving into had a slightly larger doorframe, which was helpful because she uses a walker. The dining area is good, average, and my aunt is not thrilled with the food. This facility was the most affordable that I have looked at. They do some outings in little mini buses, they play Bingo and have Bible study classes. They also have special events like for Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. I also think their staffing is stretched, but I think they offer a good value.

When I went at Armour Oaks they showed me this room that literally was like 150 square feet and it was very small and there is no kitchen in the room. Basically her social security would be turned over to them and they would cover all of her prescriptions and would give her $35 a month spending money. That seemed ridiculous and I think my mom would never go for that. It seems a little odd to me that you have to be in the assisted living for Medicare to contribute as supposed to independent living. That is very confusing to me.

This facility has a very urban-feeling location, off of a busy, narrow street currently undergoing quite a bit of construction. There are several facilities operated by Armour on this cul-de-sac and the neighbourhood is beautiful once you turn off the main street. There are several stately brick buildings with white trim, lush lawns and big leafy trees all around. However, the interior of the Assisted Living facility was something entirely different. My guide told me the building was built in 1928, and it's very obvious. The hallways are dark, both in terms of the wood and carpet, but also as a result of poor lighting. The lighting made it a little difficult for me to gauge cleanliness, but the facility is at least tidy and appears to be pretty well maintained, given its age. I was concerned at one point that my tour included a stairwell which was extremely cluttered around the main travel path, and the fact that the building has no elevators. My guide informed me that all residents must be capable of escaping the building on their own in case of emergency and for the second-floor residents that means navigating 1928-era stairwells. The activity room and several common rooms are in the basement. The activity room looks very much like an old-style cafeteria, with exposed pipework in the ceiling and linoleum floors. I thought this room reeked of cigarette smoke so I wondered what the smoking policy was for the facility. In addition, the rooms seemed very small to me, but do have ensuite baths. They are painted a rather institutional mint blue, but the one a resident showed me felt very homey with her furniture. She was very upbeat and friendly, and said her doctor had recommended the facility, and that she loves it there and so does everyone she knows. Several other residents were very friendly as well, and the personal atmosphere was very nice. It's my impression that this facility is adequate, but makes no attempt to compete with the luxury-style facilities run by Brookdale and Sunrise in the KC area.
