My mother is at Bishop Spencer Place. It's amazing. She pays a monthly fee, but there is a full buy-in. It's not for everyone, but that's what she wanted to do because she was selling her house in Denver so she can afford that. The food is great. The people all knew who she is. They have a welcome committee, so she has been welcomed. Numerous people have reached out and stopped by to meet her. They're responsive. It's a nice place. They've been great.
So far, my mother hasn't participated in activities, but what we've seen that was a big thing for her. They have movie nights, bingo, chair yoga, and activities where they take people to the museums, baseball games, and all of that. They also do shopping trips and grocery trips and allow them to use the van; they just have to sign up to make a reservation. The place is beautiful; it is the nicest place I've ever seen.

Bishop Spencer Place is in a premier location off of the plaza. Although, this facility is under staffed when it comes to efficient service for all senior needs. My mother came to Bishop as a fall risk who needed rehabilitation from a left fractured hip. While attending this facility in Kansas City, Mo. on her 9th day she is left solely alone for lunch on the 9th day and she unsupervised gets up from her table and fell to the floor breaking her femur and later dying in hospice. There only method is to put sensor packs in her bed and wheelchair. The sensors are to alarm the staff that the patient has got up, but this method is horrible and ineffective. Ex. 3 times my mother has got up from her bed and wheelchair resulting into a fall.. I and and a friend ask the facility if there was something else they can do to keep her safe. Nothing else was done until she fell and broke her femur all the away across her bone. As a result of this fall she gave up and died in hospice. They need to come up with another safety method. Bishop Spencer Place was very nice, but it didn't have a pool and there was a big buy-in fee. I liked the fact that they were affiliated with the Episcopal Church.

We chose Bishop Spencer Place. It had independent living, assisted, and skilled nursing all under the same roof in the same complex. I like having all of those things together. They have a little bistro restaurant. All the food is excellent. They have a beautiful garden area. They have quite a few activities. I thought this one fit the best. My mother was in the rehab facility there. We liked it really well, so that was one of the influencing factors to go ahead and stay there. The location was good and the personnel is excellent. It's just a really, really good place. They're very caring. Everything is clean. I wouldn't have anything to complain about.
