I’ve been at this BEAUTIFUL facility several times and it’s always very clean, pleasant, calming, staff is polite, and very helpful. This facility has an extraordinary view of the river, and you’ll always find fresh flowers at the front desk. I’m always looking forward to a visit at St. Altenheim.

I was most impressed with St Louis Altenheim. It was phenomenal. It's not only beautiful, but it's right on the Mississippi River. They had patios and decks so you overlook the river. It's a large area, and the grounds were very quiet. It was centrally located near many highways. The people were phenomenally nice. I know someone living there, and she gave us the tour from top to bottom. I really got a good feel of the place, and it was wonderful. The staff was extremely helpful and willing to take time to talk with us without any hesitation. They had really great follow-up, and the admissions director called me after I had spoken with some of their PR people. It was ranked as one of the highest in the area. Each floor has an activity room. We went into one activity room, and there were 10 people playing cards. The activities seemed to be very adequate.

As with anyone, the decision to place my aunt in a nursing home was extremely difficult. My aunt raised me as her own and I felt as if I was abandoning her, yet she needed more than I could give. The Altenheim offers all levels of care; Independent living for seniors who are looking to stay active without depending on family, friends and neighbors for the simple yet daunting tasks of everyday living to short or long term nursing care. It was necessary for my aunt to have long term supportive nursing care and the staff and supportive at the Altenheim provided the perfect balance of independence with a private bedroom and bathroom, choice of meals and daily activities to providing the medical care and assistance she needed. The facilities are clean, with no nursing home smell, residents are kept active with a multitude of social and health and wellness activities and there is just an overwhelming sense of community and love. The staff is more than just staff. They relate to each resident on a personal level and treat them as their own. They are wiling to go above and beyond for each resident making sure they feel comfortable and at home. What truly amazed me is there are certain out of town guest accommodations for family if need be. While I do not use these myself, as I am in town, it is lovely to see so many family visitors for other residents. Since my aunt's residence with The Altenheim, her quality of life has improved. She is more socially and physica

My aunt lives in this particular facility. During the search process we evaluated a number of ""continued care"" facilities, meaning that they had a range of care from independent/assisted to nursing level, and this was the best.
The Altenheim's beautifully appointed common areas make for a warmth that none of the more recently constructed facilities can match. The resident's rooms are comfortable and allow for personal furnishings, making for an easy transition to a new space. The dining room has a commanding view of the Mississippi, and satisfying meals are individually prepared based on a rotational menu. I've visited often, and always try and have lunch while I'm there.
The staff has always been warm and accommodating, quite a task considering they need to be an excellent hotel at one moment and a health care provider the next. We are very pleased that we chose the Altenheim for our parents.
