I went to The Terrace Retirement Community. It's independent. The apartments they have are nice rooms. You can choose from two-bedrooms, one-bedroom, or studio. There are two sizes of the studios. They get three meals a day by a point system. I didn't think they were that expensive. I don't believe they take Medicare or anything like that because you have to be independent. They've got four burners at the top, but not the oven. You have a refrigerator, a microwave, and cabinets. They have walk-in showers. They were nice for somebody who can still live alone. They have security there and everything.
The staff did a great job. She answered all our questions. What they do out there is they have you on a point system. You get 400 points a month. For example: two eggs, three pieces of bacon, hash browns, two pieces of toast, coffee and orange juice. That's four points. That's what she gave me an example of, so they can get their bellies full out there. The studio apartment that they showed us was clean. They just had a bed in there and a chair just to show you what it would look like if you choose to take that one.

The Terrace Retirement Community was very nice. I'm 76, and what I noted when I went through there is that everybody there was much older than me, and I was looking for a place where I would have people a little closer to my age. The accommodations were nice and clean. The one negative thing I can think of is that there's no covered parking and the parking is downhill, so you've got to walk uphill to get into the facilities. I'm very mobile, but who knows how long that could be, and in the wintertime, I think that would be a disadvantage.
They have some exercise classes, so that's a nice thing. They have a library. I know they have different activities there, but I don't know what all of them are. Besides the exercise classes, they have some equipment. There is no pool there, and I like to swim. All your meals and the cleaning are provided. They have a system for your meals like for a year, you've got something like $400 and those are all covered under your rent, but if you go over that, then there's a charge for it. They somehow keep track of that. They have a guest room where if you want somebody to stay over for a night or something, they have a room for that, and I think those are nice features. I only interacted with one staff and she was quite pleasant.

The Terrace has more to offer that my mom likes, so I think that's the one we're going to end up going with. They have more choices of meal times and things to eat. They get three different restaurant-style settings to choose from and my mother likes that. They also have a full apartment with a stove so that she is able to cook for herself if she wants to. The staff members were very friendly and very helpful. We tried the food and it was very good. The apartments were very nice and very well kept.

My mother is a resident of The Terrace Retirement Community. They're superb, they're nice, and they have good food. It's a really nice and clean place, and they're all caring people. It's basically brand new and modern. She has a kitchen, a bathroom and a living area. I don't know how old it is, maybe only 10 years old, so it's all nice and new. They have a courtyard, plenty of room outside to walk on a nice day, and they have a big living room and an activity room. The food is great, and they offer three meals a day. It's just a nice and great place.

The Terrace was nice. They have a very nice dining room there and there's also a bistro. There's an old Terrace and a new Terrace. The new Terrace was a little nicer because the second floor looks out on the woods. They have a balcony. The staff was very good and very informative. We had lunch there and the food was good.

The Terrace Retirement Community was not good. It was a very large apartment complex with one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and studio apartments. Part of it was brand new and very nice but very expensive. It was a pet-friendly place and served wonderful food. There was a flat rate for one person then they charge you additional for the second person, which made it pricey.

The Terrace Retirement Community was good. They had individual rooms with a dishwasher and a full oven. What I liked about them was that they had different ways to dine. You didn’t have to go to the dining room all the time. The staff was very nice. There was an outside guitarist that came in and was playing for them. The only problem was the location was a little hard to get to.

I haven’t seen the main, new portion of The Terrace because they just finished it, but I wasn't impressed with the older portion. The wings were small, but they did have a wonderful dining room and activities, like little sewing groups, people who came in to sing, an exercise room, a hot tub, a library, and a walking trail. They serve three meals a day. It’s been there for many years, so it was small and the carpet needed to be changed out in some of the rooms. They just built a brand-new portion that I’m sure is quite nice, but it was expensive for me. They were very accommodating and didn’t hold anything back. The people I talked to liked it there.
