My husband was placed into Silver Creek here in Joplin on October 5th. He will be there until probably the end of the month. It was just temporary respite care in assisted living until I got over recuperating from my surgery. He likes that he has his own room. We requested that he have one that he could look out of so they showed him 3 different rooms and he was able to pick one out that he liked the most. He called yesterday and his personality was upbeat so he is enjoying where he is. He was talking about meeting some new people and said he likes the food too. He says they give him activities and that he especially likes being able to do the occupational and physical therapy that they have. They have a barber who can come in and they even have a spa. They have a jacuzzi-type spa area and he likes that too. He likes the breakfast because it's not scheduled that you have to have breakfast when they say so. They allow them to wake up and request breakfast whenever they want to. A chef will go and fix them breakfast. He said he ate at 9:30 in the morning. The rest of the meals are pretty structured but he likes the ability to choose or to tell them what he wants for breakfast and when to eat it. I've only come in contact with the staff once or twice, and they were very courteous and answered all my questions. I haven't heard any complaints from my husband so things seem to be okay. The facility is always very nice and clean. There's a woman who comes in and switches out the tablecloths. They have regular tablecloths and ones for decorations and they switch them out all the time. He talks about the different videos, movies, and programs they could watch. He's not too much into puzzles and things, but they tell him that whatever he does, if he requests something, they will get it to him, within reason, and he likes that.

Arbors had been great, except for the fact there was a miscommunication with the finances. When we moved my mother, they failed to tell us that it was a self-paid facility. Today was the best day she’s had because she is finally getting used to the place, and now we have to move her again. It is a very clean facility, and the food looks good, but she didn’t need assisted living; she needed a full nursing home. It is really a very small facility, and they keep everything locked down, like her bathroom doors and the linens, so that you cannot get into everybody else's stuff. The staff is really nice.

I thought the staff was fairly friendly. When you walk into the rooms it was pretty homey and nice. I thought the furniture was pretty good quality. Everything seemed to be fairly clean. I had a few questions that the care giver showing me around couldn't answer which was of some concern, but didn't steer me away. The overall atmosphere seemed like a place that I wouldn't mind having a loved one living at. I was most impressed by the food service. Seeming to have a little something for everyone, and not just the same old thing every day. I didn't feel rushed at all during the visit, overall I would recommend Silver Creek - assisted living by Americare.
