I did a tour of Golden Horizons of Worthington, and it felt more like a warehouse to house people until they died. It was not very clean, and the staff acted like they didn't know who we were. When we came in, we had a hard time finding the administration office. It smelled like a nursing home. The paint wasn't fresh in the apartments. They didn't talk to us at all about any of the amenities or activities. It was like, "Here's a piece of paper; give us a call if you're interested." It was like they couldn't get us out the door fast enough. It wasn't a good experience at all. They were larger than the ones at the Meadows, but they didn't have kitchenettes in them. The size of the apartments was fine, but they just looked outdated. It was just depressing to be in there, it was dark. Their dining area is depressing. It looked like a nursing home; it was very depressing there, and it was dark. It wasn't a happy place. None of the residents hardly even looked up, and they just acted like that place made me feel depressed. They acted like they weren't interested in helping us. We felt like we were interrupting their day when we were there. The only person we saw, didn't even introduce herself. She had a nursing uniform on, that was the only person we met, nobody else. Even the other staff didn’t look at us. It wasn't a happy place. If they are interested in caring for people and providing a home for people, they should try a little harder to at least make people feel welcome when they're touring the place. If this is how they are, when they're looking at a prospective customer, I can't imagine what goes on when you're there and you need help with anything. It just didn't give us a good feeling if they're acting like that before we're even a customer.

I toured Golden Horizons of Worthington for my mom. We loved the director. She has been there for seven years, and we felt a lot of similarities in our lives. She was a farm girl, and we were farm girls. She dealt with a situation when we were there, and we thought it was well-handled. On our tour, we saw the community. I think the building was very clean, as well where they eat. I thought it was clean and bright. The people that were working there were very happy, smiley, and welcoming. The rooms that we looked at for mom were bigger than where she's at now, for the same money. It's not a big place and mom needs kind of an easy way to find her way around. I liked that it was a smaller facility. I didn't see a lot of the staff, but the ones we saw were great.
