My grandmother lived in assisted living for a few years before she moved into a nursing home. She was having a lot of difficulty seeing and she just couldn't do very much anymore. Everything appeared to being going well at first. My grandmother enjoyed the help she was getting, and she said the workers and residents were all very kind. She loved the food and the church services she had the opportunity to attend. When we visited her, it seemed like she was in a very good place. Suddenly, she had a rapid decline in health. We attributed this to her old age, but we found out later that she was being neglected by the staff. They did not call the ambulance for her in a timely manner, causing her to suffer much more than she needed to. Eventually, this lead to her death. The staff did not call the ambulance in time and my grandmother went into cardiac arrest and died.
