We looked at the Brookdale Faribault. The facility was beautiful, and the staff was very friendly. They took time with us to answer our questions and to visit with us. We felt very at home there. I was really happy with that place. It was very nice. I'm not sure if that's what we're looking for right now, but if it were, it would be one that I would choose for my husband. We liked the fact that it wasn't so big and overwhelming. The staff went out of their way, all of them to speak with us. It was pleasantly decorated, and in a good location. It was more like a home living than an institution. The layout was easy to get around, it was easy to find things, not hard to get lost. The rooms were cozy and clean. It's a very clean facility.

My wife is in Brookdale Faribault for respite. It's a good place, they're all expensive of course, but the quality is good. She gets her meals and the food is good, they have a lounge room, they play bingo, and stuff like that, so they have activities, and they have a big TV set down there. I was looking for some place in town. Brookdale was convenient and it had an opening.

I did visit the Sterling House, and it was just way too small. The rooms were almost like a big hotel room; there was no kitchen. The staff was very good. They were on top of things and were very nice. It was just the size of the rooms, and she just wasn't ready to give up her own apartment. The dining room was nice, and everything looked good there. They have entertainment and stuff, and I think they also have activities throughout the week for them. Everyone I met seemed very nice and very caring. I think it is a well-kept place, but it is just not for my mom. She wanted her own apartment; she wasn't ready for a single room.

I have a grandfather who is currently staying at Sterling House, and think that it is an excellent assisted living facility. I admittedly don't have many other experiences to compare it to, but when I have visited him at the facility I can only describe it as a cordial, comfortable, and relaxed atmosphere. The staff is friendly and the residents seemed to be happy. I know that my grandfather certainly liked the place, and that says a lot as it was tough to convince him to move into it. The only reason I kept my review from being 5 stars was because I thought that they facility didn't encourage much of a group atmosphere. I realize that for many this may be what they desire, but I thought that there could have been a bit more socialization encouraged. Either way, Sterling house is a great place and I would recommend it to anyone in the area who needs assisted living for their elderly relatives.
