St. Charles Assisted Living was nice. We looked at a studio and a one-bedroom. My mother is still mobile and she still drives her own car. She wanted something where her car would be close. The only thing that bothered her was that the garages were not attached to the room. It was in the middle of a huge renovation at the time, so it's going to be gorgeous when it gets done. At this point, there wasn't anything wrong with it. It was fine before the renovations. It just isn't going to allow her to have the kind of independence that she's still demanding. I saw two dining areas and a nice patio outside, and it was well-decorated and clean. The meals were posted. There were snacks. The staff was accommodating. We called and made an appointment the same day that we called. They're in the middle of painting, so everything was down, but you could see that pictures were going to go back up on the wall, so it was great. It was lovely. There was a library, there were two different common areas with a beautiful fireplace and decorations, and a front desk. She's allowed to come and go if she wants and eat meals in the common area if she wants. The one-bedroom had a space for a microwave and a refrigerator. The studio was kind of tiny, and there was probably not as much space for that. On the whole, it was very nice.
