My mother moved into The Emeralds at Grand Rapids about a month ago. She has Alzheimer's/dementia, but she's mentally "with it" sometimes, so we decided that the best safe place for her was to put her into an assisted living. She has her own apartment, but she can be with the community and have lunch out there with them. She's around a lot more people than she was before, and she's happy. This is one of the nicer ones my mom has seen. I like that they can get together in one area, talk to each other, and see other people. Her apartment is awesome and the perfect size for her. Everything in her old apartment fits in there. She didn't have to give anything up, and that was important to her. They can eat dinner together instead of her eating by herself, and they have activities that they do during the day to keep her occupied. I haven't been able to go over to take a tour because of COVID. I see her now for only a half an hour in the living area where people congregate, and that's something I don't like about it. I have to call forty-eight hours in advance to see my mother. Other than that, I can talk to her every day because she has her phone. I haven't seen her apartment because of COVID, but what I have seen was great and very clean. She said she likes the food.

My mom moved into The Emeralds at Grand Rapids. She has her apartment, but she can be with the community in the building and she's around more people than she was, so she's happy. This is one of the nicer ones my mom had seen. I like that the community people are around for her to talk to because she was isolated in her apartment unless one of us came. It was a matter of mom liking what she has seen. We did not like to put her here in a place where she did not like it. Her room is awesome for her; it is a perfect size. Everything in her apartment fit in there so she did not have to give anything up and that was important to her. They can eat dinner together instead of by themselves. They have activities that they do during the day to keep her occupied. At home she was not like that, she was very depressed. I see her only half an hour in the living area where people congregate because I only have half an hour and then they bring her back and that is something I don't like about it because I had to call 48 hours in advance to see my mother. I can talk to her every day through the phone, though. Her sister lives in the apartments that she lives in, so she feels comfortable there. I have not seen her room because they won't let us see her room due to Covid but what I have seen is great. The place is very clean. My mom says she likes the food. I think they do a really good job in keeping the people occupied.
