The three and a half months my mother spent at this facility were horrible. The care was minimal, at best, the management inept, and the revolving door of employees meant that she spent her days around strangers who didn't seem particularly willing to help her in any way. (the only exception was the housekeeper, who was lovely and spent time chatting with all the residents). We started off with mom being given an antipsychotic medication that was not on her meds list. when i caught the error on her pharmacy bill after a month, their response was basically "Oops! Sorry." They did not bandage wounds, or do her laundry, and rarely responded to the call button. I came in and gave her showers, so at least she saw me three times a week. She was basically ignored, except for the kitchen staff, who were fairly accommodating. After three and a half months, she ended up with double pneumonia, which i discovered while visiting her and noticing her raspy breathing and taking her temperature. I had to track down the nurse to inform her of my mom's condition. The staff had no idea. How's that for 'personal attention'? When i took my mom to the hospital, the doctor made it clear that he would only release her if I took her home to my house. He did not want her going back to the facility. He would have admitted her instead. Given that, they are still trying to chase us down for an extra month's rent, claiming breach of contract, when they have clearly been in breach of contract since the beginning. In a nutshell, find somewhere else to take your loved one.

1. rooms are spacious but not cleaned regularly. 2. staff is friendly but lacks intelligence. 3. the staff makes important patient decisions without consent of the family. 4. daily activities are few to none.

Royal Oak House is a new state of the art licensed assisted living. More importantly our staff are very well trained, caring and have a passion for serving the elderly population with pride. Our residents enjoy an active community, great food, visiting with friends and family, and excellent customer service. The staff are trained and supervised under the direction of a seasoned registered nurse. With 24/7 nursing supervision you can leave your worries behind (we will do that for you), and enjoy all of the beautiful moments in life. Come in and talk with our residents, families and staff and you will see for yourself why we are building a great reputation, and what makes us so special. It's a great place to live and to work. We deliver on the promises that we make!

Royal Oak is a brand new place. I like it. One thing they've got going for them is their location. It is in a nice, quiet neighborhood. This place is very good, clean, and safe. The people are very friendly and very nice. The staff is friendly. It's been a very positive experience for me.

We were happy when this was an American House. New owners bought the building in April of 2015. We kept hearing rumors about money being spent on improvements which made us happy but wondering when. In July 2016, out of the blue we were told by our caseworker that all residents were being evicted so the owners could refurbish the entire building, raise the rent by a large amount, make it a facility for elders with memory problems and eliminate any rooms available for for those with little funds (Medicaid beds). If the owners were compassionate to the needs of their residents they would have given us notice of their plans when they made this purchase so families wouldn't have to scramble for new places to live. There are few options in the real world for poor people to move to in a short amount of time. I would not recommend this place now or after the refurbished place due to the lack of concern by the owners to their residents. P.S. The Royal Oak House voice message on their main office phone doesn't even have their name on it, you can only hope you have called the correct facility. Very unprofessional.

The rooms and the staff at American House - Royal Oak Senior Living were wonderful. She had a studio apartment, and it was fine. They were sufficient and clean for what we needed.

Mom is all set to move in to American House. I choose it because it is close to my home and the place is small. The staff is very helpful.

It was a very nice living facility to visit. The building itself is in great shape, they are doing a great job keeping up on it. I did not stay long so I did not see every single thing that goes on there. The staff was very kind and helping. The nurse that came to her house was very nice and help and even asked did we need anything. I would recomed this living facility to a friend or family member. I would love to live there when I am old and need help, knowing how they take care of there tenents. I would like to visit the living facitity again for a long period of time to see everything thats goes on there, ut my grandmother states that they are very good to her, and everything she need is rite there on site. I even noticed they had a salon for cutting hair also. Very nice place.

I think that Royal Oak Manor is an excellent choice for placement for someone that prefers to live independently and who is looking for an Independent living apartment for themselves, a friend or even a family member. Royal Oak Manor is located in Downtown Royal Oak; Mi is beautifully landscaped, structured and maintained. The surrounding neighborhoods are also beautifully landscaped quiet and have an array of eye catching restaurants, shopping stores, Farmers Market, churches, etc. This independent living apartment building is affordable and low income for individuals that are on a low budget or fixed income. The facility appeared to be clean and cared for. The food was ok, but overcooked. My aunt had wet her bed and we had to notify the caregivers to ask them to change it for her. Also, no showering assistance was provided - we had to pay extra for that. I would suggest large interior courtyard for residents where residents can enjoy the outdoors. Residents were sitting right outside the main entrance, which made it difficult to help our aunt get in and out. One complained about the exhaust from our car, but it was very hot and we were keeping the air on for our aunt's comfort.

My grandfather stays here since my grandmother passed away. He has been living there for almost two years now and has never said a bad thing about the place. The staff is friendly and allow myself and other family members to visit almost whenever we please. The caretakers there always treat my grandfather very well (he has told me on more than one occasion!). I have noticed more than once the cleanliness and professionalism of the entire establishment. All-in-all, and having dealt with another home previously with my grandmother that had been...unpleasant to say the least, I would give American House 5 stars, for their great service and continued professionalism. Please keep up the great work!

My father is a resident of the American House Royal Oak, MI and he is inflicted with Parkinson's Disease. When I went to visit this assisted living facility I was greeted by a very friendly and enthusiastic activities director, Angie. She took time with me to describe the facility but she also took me around and introduced me to several of the seniors living in the facility. She explained to me that they had other people with Parkinson's Disease and made me feel at ease that they understood the needs of such people. When my father was first moved in to his apartment at the American House the first thing the employees did was try in every way possible to make him feel at home. They were also nice enough to help us get in house physical therapy for my father and he is now moving around much better than when he was at home. Also, It is nice to see that they provide many different activities that are both in house and out of house for their residents. Most of what we have experienced so far has been very pleasant and very positive. Unfortunately, there are a couple of problems that I have found with this facility. The facility is older and needs to be updated to accommondate people who use wheelchairs. Some of the bathrooms are so small that a wheelchair will not fit inside of them. Also, some of the rooms have showers that are sunk into the ground which makes it difficult for some people to get in and out of the showers. Although, I will say that they will put any bars that need to be put into the bathroom. Another problem that we have experienced was the in-house medical team seems a bit unorganized at times. I arranged for some night checks at one point and they were not done due to a paperwork error that should have been caught right away and I should have been notified immediately.
