The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower used to be a beautiful old hotel and they've done a lot of work on it. It is very comfortable. My husband has a great room and the whole second floor is assisted living. All of the girls that work on that floor have been wonderful. They're good to my husband. They care about him and do anything to make him feel better and comfortable. They're always very gracious and helpful to me and I always try to keep them informed if I know things that I think they should know. I think they're concerned about all the residents. Everybody is friendly and helpful. So, it's been a good fit all the way around and I think they're doing a great job.
There's a cafe on the second floor for all the assisted living people to eat. We also had lunch downstairs in the independent living, where my husband's friend is. The waitress comes and asks what you want for lunch and to help yourself to the salad bar and they always have a dessert of some kind. It was like a restaurant and didn't feel like assisted living. They have a lot of activities. They have a bus that goes to Myers and Wal-Mart and it's also available to take people to the doctor or the dentist. Then I would have to meet them there and they would either wait or I would call them when it was time to pick him back up.
They are redoing rooms as they come up empty. They're painting and I think they're putting in new windows. So, they're trying to make it a first-class place, yet it's not as expensive as some of the places around here. There are a couple of other beautiful new facilities here, but they're more expensive. All things considered, I thought The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower was the best place. It's downtown in Saint Joseph and when the days are nice, I can take my husband in his wheelchair, walk across the street into a big park area, look out on the lake, and get fresh air and sunshine. Also, we can go down to an ice cream place or have lunch downtown. These other places (no matter where they are) mostly don't have a view. They're just more of a business setting.

I'm living in The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower, and I like everything. The people are nice. The food is good. The room suits my needs. It's a studio. It's a little bigger than a regular studio, so it's adequate-sized. They have exercise classes, piano concerts, games, and things like that. There are no grounds. It's an old hotel that's right in the middle of town. It's right by the lake, so we get a beautiful view of the lake. Their activities get a pretty good turnout, though I haven't been to any of them yet. The overall value for the money is good.

The Whitcomb Senior Living Tower was a very nice facility. The staff was very nice and very helpful. They provide all the meals, they have entertainment days, activities, exercise classes, hair and spa, and outings. They pretty much offer everything.

I went to look at The Whitcomb Senior Living Community. When we walked in, it was very spacious and very nice. They have separate rooms. They have a sitting room where they have a piano bar and entertainment. They came down later, and they did arts and crafts. They were doing ceramic Christmas ornaments, painting ceramic trees, and different ornaments. They have a section for movie nights and popcorn. They have games in the dining room area. The different floors have different kinds of people, depending on the needs. The rooms we looked at were very clean. The staff is very nice. The people that were living there and who we talked to seemed to enjoy it.
It overlooks the lake in the river, and you could see the White House from there. It had a really nice shopping area. There was a hairdresser next door. You can go to different stores. They have banking there. It was very convenient and very nice. They do a lot to accommodate you. It's not cheap though, but none of the places are. They have outings. They go to Myer every Thursday. They have casino trips. It's a very good place to be. It does need some repairs and modifications. With COVID, they stopped the renovation that they were doing. But other than that, they're doing a great job. From what we've seen and the people we talked to, everything was good. They have the menu posted for the day. They have different meals each day, so it's not the same thing. They have a section there if you just want to come down in the morning and have coffee and chat with people.

We visited The Whitcomb Senior Living Community Assisted Living, and we were not too impressed with it. It was a hotel and was just run down, although they are trying to fix it up. It was a lot less, but it just didn't have the same feel as other places.
It just looks like a run-down motel, that's what it was. I went in the bathroom, they had fixtures that were broken, and the broken stuff was still there. They didn't have the little kitchenette, a fridge, or a microwave.
The staff was very sweet. She was very nice and walked us through all the rooms. It just wasn't our cup of tea, and it wasn't as nice. She showed us the dining area, we didn't really see any food.
I know it is a work in progress, trying to get it up to par with the other facilities. Even the rooms -- when we went in, you could tell they were just cleared-out hotel rooms. It just didn't have that homey feeling. They had chairs in the hallway. They were trying, but it just wasn't there.
