We chose American House Sterling Meadows for my mother. It's lovely, and it's working out quite well. The apartment is quite nice, it's nice. My mom doesn't have an appetite, she's not eating much, but she likes the soup. Right now, because of COVID, they don't have anything. It was more convenient in location.

My mother moved into American House. They're very friendly, everything is up to code, it's beautiful, and my mother is very happy with it. She has a 2-bedroom on the first floor, it's huge, and she loves it. They have Bingo, a pool table, puzzles, exercise, a TV downstairs in the living room, and they love to watch the ballgame. The have a gazebo right outside her room, people go out there in the evening, and it's really nice. They have a bus that takes them shopping, to doctors' offices, and to the bank. The hallways were just redone. They just put a breakfast bar in the dining room, and in the entryway, they've got a place for coffee, drinks, cereal, and pastries 24 hours a day. The food was delicious. The staff was very friendly, and everybody seemed to know the residents by name. It's right next to a Meijer's shopping center.

At American House Sterling Woods, they weren't fully trained in being able to find out exactly what I needed. They're more interested in telling me what they had. I would describe the rooms to be very typical, e.g., nothing fancy. They have blinds on the windows, and depending on the size of the room, they have a king bed or a queen bed. The showers were all walk-in showers. The kitchen was adequate. They have trips to outside restaurants, and they go to local museums.

Actually, one of the representatives from Caring.com gave me a list of places, and I did my own research and called American House. I think the place is great, and the staff goes out of their way to make sure everybody gets what they need during the day. They also get out of their way to keep them busy and active. They are very caring, and they keep the residents happy with each other. They all know each other so that it is like one big happy family thanks to the people that work there. They are excellent, and if I had to rate them from 1 to 10, I would rate them an 11. The rooms are very nice and kept nice. The cleaners come in and do what they are supposed to do. You don't have to worry about honesty or them messing with things that they shouldn't mess with. Whoever is running that particular facility is so good that everybody is happy to be there. Everybody is happy, even the people that do the cleaning and the cooking. It is a nice atmosphere, and I am happy that I found it. My mom has been there for just about a month. I visit her every day, and every day the staff is the same about being happy to see you. I would recommend that particular location because it is great. As for the food, my mom doesn't care for it, but I think they do an excellent job. The security is very good because I know for a fact when my mother went somewhere with one of her friends, they immediately stopped them. They didn't make a scene, but they just asked where is she going or inquiring if the person is on the list. They are on the top of their game over there. I think it is a wonderful place for people. If I was looking for a place, I would go there.

The staff is wonderful and friendly at the time they gave the tour in American House Sterling Meadows. They are very nice, and I can't say anything bad about it. I saw the dining room, and it was very nice. I think they had entertainment that day, so there were people in the lobby or community center. They had a Christmas bazaar going on or something like that. There was Christmas music playing, and lunch time was going on. I didn't like the rooms because I thought they were old looking and very dingy. Everything is very nice in the lobby. It is a three story building, and it used to be a single apartment. It is just an older building. I was looking for a place that was all on one floor so my mom didn't have to deal with an elevator.

It is difficult to review as I have no other experience with an assisted living facility. The staff has been friendly and responsive to requests. My father does complain about the food. He says it is too salty. The rating would have been higher, however, we have had certain difficulties with the medical staff. The medical staff could be better.
