I only visited American House Petoskey for a short time. They were very friendly, and it looked like a nice, well-run place. Everything looked very well taken care of. The young lady who showed me through was good.

My father is in American House Petoskey. I like that their service is efficient and that their demeanor is attractive and peaceful. Their evening meal is small and their lunch has plenty of vegetables and fruits. I've only visited there once, but I was pleased with the service that I saw. They serve three meals a day. My mom was upset because the dinner was small, but I think that serves the purpose better. The staff tells me my dad is pleasant, and they're always on task. They are very pleasant and caring.

My mom was in American House. There is a lot of room for improvement there. "It is not my job." That was the attitude of the staff because there are caregivers, housekeepers, and several different entities within the building. So if you ask the wrong person about something, they will say, "Oh, that is not my job." That feels confusing for the people who stay there because it's like, "Alright, who do I ask for this?" Like my mother's cable box wasn't working and she couldn't get her television to work, so she asked somebody, and it was like, "Oh, we don't do that." Then, she ended up having to call the cable company to come in and fix her cable box and all it was is because the plugs aren't high, so that wheelchair people can reach them, the bed unplugged the cable box. That was all that was wrong with it, but she had to pay somebody to come in there and plug her cable box in for her. Sanitation seemed to be fairly good. I didn't see anything that stuck out, and there were hand sanitizer things all over the walls, all over the place. The food leaves a lot to be desired. They were sharing a room, they had those little walkers, and the two twin-sized beds in the bedroom made it very difficult for them to have enough room to get around. Both of them could not be up at the same time in the bedroom. They also don't have any automatic doors for wheelchair patients to go out into the courtyard to sit. If they wanted to, they had to bother somebody to open the door for them. The hallway going to their dining area is very narrow, and I know my family does not care for the food. I ate there myself once, and they charged me quite a bit for what I had. But if you can't go in and have a meal with your family without being overcharged for food, that is just not worth it. Personally, I didn't like it. I am unhappy with the facility, but it is one of the better facilities in the area.

American House had all the facilities that we were looking for. It was very clean, and the people were nice. The staff is very well and helpful. They have rooms and suites available too. They have two or three different choices. It is very clean and very well taken care of. They have physical fitness like treadmills, activities going on, and bingo almost every day. They provide transportation to the senior citizens center.

I would like to take the time to give a review of Sunnybank Assisted Living which is located in Petoskey, Michigan. I find it necessary to give a review of this facility because I was very impressed by their amenities as well as their staff. I visited this facility with a group of people from our church group who go out and do volunteer/charity work.I was able to visit this facility for about four hours and get to know the inner workings as well. I found the staff to be very accommodating to the patients and very attentive to the patient's needs. I saw them numerous times interacting with the patients and carrying on conversations and really trying to get to know them instead of just giving them their food or medications. I also found the facility to be very clean and orderly. The rooms are good sized and the patients are allowed to bring whatever they want from home to make their room more comfortable. Also, there are other amenities such as a game room, chef and beauty shops available.I would suggest that anyone who is looking to place their loved one somewhere due to them not being able to care for themselves, look at Sunnybank Assisted Living. Thank you for letting me share about my experience!
