I live near Maplewood of Marshall so I've visited it. It's assisted living but they have people that are there permanently and can drive, get out and walk around in those sorts of things. I like the cleanliness and orderliness of the place. The staff is very professional and gave me as much time as I needed to ask questions and look around. The place is very clean. They're decorated well and generally well taken care of. It's just north of town, it's near a condo complex and it's quite nice on the outside.

Maplewood is close to my mother’s home, and she likes that. She knew some people there. We didn’t choose it because it is very expensive; it is out of our price range. It is a great location for us.

They did have a special memory care room at Maplewood and we went there for a couple of months. All the dementia patients had to stay in this little room all day and it wasn't any bigger than my living room. At meal time, they had 11 or 12 people in there feeding them and they had four reclining chairs on one side and they could either sit in the recliner or at the table. They had a TV and they had one lady in there but it just wasn't enough to keep my father happy. I don't know if his medicines weren't working but he said he was getting real aggressive and frustrated because they just made him sit all the time and he'd get angry and then he'd grab somebody's arm. If you can still walk and just need some help with food and personal hygiene, the facility is wonderful. I liked it up there a lot but my father needed more care than just the assisted living.
