I did a tour of Sojourner Place. The staff who accommodate us was knowledgeable and very nice. I spoke to the manager and a nurse. The facility was very clean, very bright, and very airy. It seemed very nice.

The woman at Sojourner Place who was helping me, her name is Nicole, and she's been absolutely a lifeline. The staff seems very helpful and they care about the people. The price doesn't seem too bad, but the price is worth it if they take care of your loved ones. I haven't tried their food but they offered to feed me. Their facilities seemed fine, they had a salon, a nice outdoor courtyard, an activities room, they had a doctor that would come in weekly. They had nice social areas and they were taking precautions for COVID. It was very clean nice and clean, and they were constantly updating the rooms. They even showed me an empty room, that they were putting new carpeting in and paintings, and it looked very nice.

Sojourner Place was nice and clean. It just didn't appeal to me as much as the other place, probably on the basis of how friendly and outgoing the staff was.

The tour at Sojourner Place was great. Everything was fine and everything was set up and they're waiting for me. Abigail, the administrator that showed me around was well prepared and she did great. I was impressed with the facility, but another community was a better fit for my mother. It was very nice and very clean. The rooms were great, nice, and clean as well. The facility was well maintained but I think the decor could be a little less stark. It was a little institutional appearing, and they could use more decorations and more things that make people feel at home rather than living in a hospital. It was not homey enough, a bit stark, and did not have the touch of home that we were looking for.

My mother lived here for about 3 years. I toured several places over the years in the Kalamazoo area and since they were all for profit, as expected they were pleasant while recruiting me. This is a small facility. The staff greets you by name and like family. I was told that when I toured there but didn't really believe it. There are quite a few activities here. Since I paid my mother's invoice, she was always calling me to ask how much she paid for an activity. I was happy to tell her nothing since like most seniors she worried about running out of money.
One really doesn't know however until a problem arises how they will respond. This is what happened with my mother after having a stroke. I could never thank the staff enough for the love, support and level of care given to my mother. Over the years I got to know the folks who worked during the day but after her stroke I got to meet several of the night shift as well and they were also wonderful. When they realized my mother would no longer be a resident, it was then they were at their best. It wasn't about the money. It was taking the best possible care of her while she was still there.

My grandma reported that she thought there were bed bugs another resident confirmed this to her she has been afraid to leave her apartment because she fears bringing the bed bugs back to her apartment. The food is terrible it’s either burnt or not warm at all my grandma said she wouldn’t even feed the food to a zoo animal. For what she pays monthly you think it would be way better. Most of the staff is friendly and full of smiles but there is one she doesn’t care for at all. This staff member always tells her she doesn’t have time to help her or talk to her but when she goes to the front desk all or most of staff is sitting there playing on there phones.

We chose Sojourner Place for my husband. I'm impressed with his one-bedroom apartment. It has a small kitchen and a bathroom, so it's very nice. The staff is incredible. My husband had an accident yesterday where he fell out of bed and broke his nose, and the staff was right there, calling an ambulance. They did an excellent job. They've been keeping an eye on him all day today. Once a month they have a Family Night where family is invited. They told me that anytime I wanted to eat with my husband, I'm welcome to, and their food is pretty good. They have bingo, going for walks, and a lot of different activities. The facility isn't a really big place, but they have a common dining room, a living room with a TV, an activity room, and a room with puzzles and books. It's worth the money.

Sojourner Place was a smaller facility, so it's a little more intimate. It's clean and well organized. The people seemed friendly and competent. They had activities scheduled, but there weren't any at the time I was there. It seemed to be a pleasant place, a little bit newer, and a little bit more updated. The person who gave me the tour was very pleasant and very informative.

When I first checked into Sojourner, the employees were very nice and the facility was clean. So I thought it would be a nice place for my parents to live. As time went by, I discover how unorganized Sojourner,. They have an extremely high turn over with their employees and even management positions. Some of their employees who should be certified are not. For the longest time they did not have an RN on staff. They advertise that there will be a RN at the house 24/7. I have noticed there are less and less employees there, so I know the residents are not getting the best care possible. Af times wben I would walk into the house, I would not find an employee around or at the desk. One of my concerns are my parents are not getting their meds on time and I even wonder if they are getting the right dosage. There is no one there to hear my conerns and to try to contact the corporate office that is impossible. There has been a lot of changes, I do not see any improvements. Management does not keep the residents and/or families informed as to what is happening and how they are solving issues. 99% of the residents will tell you how horrible the good is. I am sorry that I have chosen Sojourner for my parents. I am always worrying about their care. I am looking into different options, but moving my mother would be hard on her since she has dementia. We pay a lot of money, for less and lees care and bad food. I feel I made a horrible mistake in choosing Sojourner for my parents care. Please do your homework, before making a decision, even then there are no guarantees.

The staff was friendly and took good care of my father. We were blessed to have found a place that Dad could go and enjoy the privacy of his own apartment but know that help was there if he needed it. It was tough on the family knowing we couldn't care for Dad, but from the day he moved in it was clear we made the right choice. Sojourner made us feel comfortable and Dad started to join in activities and socialize again which had not happened since Mom died. We thank the staff for all they do and bringing Dad's smile back.
