About This Community
Marycrest first opened in Detroit in 1947 and moved to its current site in Livonia in 1960. We are a not-for-profit community that has a long tradition of quality, mission-oriented service for our residents. We offer an intimate assisted living community of 24 all-inclusive apartment homes called Newburgh Manor. Our independent living is called Marycrest Heights, and is ala carte, allowing residents to tailor their services for what works for their individual lifestyles. In 2023, we will be opening new independent apartment homes with an all-inclusive, entrance fee plan, which will be called Marycrest Heights. We offer a holistic approach to senior living. Delicious and healthy meals are served at our restaurant, The Lakes, and we have a fitness center, pool, and outpatient rehab to help care for the body. We provide programming based on the interests and desires of our residents to care for the mind. Our chapel, friendships, and spiritual opportunities are here to help nourish the soul. We invite you to come to see what we have to offer; we are sure you will feel right at home!

We went to Marycrest and sat in the lobby from the start. We waited to be greeted before someone came in. The young lady was pleasant and friendly, but she wasn't offering a lot of information as far as pricing. She kept saying, "We'll go over that later." She told us on the phone that they have assisted living apartments available, but once we got there, she explained that they did not have one. It also made us feel that they were trying to get away from assisted living. She kept saying they were gearing more towards independent living even if I made it clear I needed assisted living. Then she mentioned respite care and that's where we could live first. Once the apartments for assisted living opened up, we could be moved there, but it could take up to a year.
The facilities were clean, lovely, and modern. It was nice, but once we got to the respite care rooms, our hearts kind of stopped. All it was was a very tiny room. It had one small single hospital bed. I have two grandparents that are currently in a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment, so it is not going to work for them. It's so tiny. It didn't feel like home. There was nothing in it, not even a chair for us to sit on if we visited.
The young lady showed us some more things. She showed us the arts and crafts area and tried to sell off on that. It's all lovely and good, but I need my grandparents in an environment that's providing meals and nursing and things of that nature, and I'm not worried about arts and crafts. We felt uncomfortable there actually. I didn't feel like there was diversity in there.

My mom is in Marycrest's assisted living. I was very impressed with the facility itself, it was very clean, it's updated and the people are very friendly. They have full assistance with their staff and they truly care about every person. It's not like you're a number. Some of the assisted living facilities that I visited were a little bit larger, and Marycrest is not small by any means, but it's got more of a personal touch that I got the feeling for. And pricing too was an important perk as well. It was within my budget because some of the places that I looked at were out of my budget. They've got a very nice workout room with all different types of workout equipment. They've got a physical therapist on-site, they do recreational activities like arts and crafts and bingo, and if the weather is permitting, you can go outside. They have a chapel where they have mass 2-3 times a week. Right outside of my mother's room is a very nice sitting area with a large screen TV, a fireplace, and it's just a very comforting atmosphere.
DISGUSTED AS HELL

Save yourself a lot of problems and possibly someone's life by searching out for a reputable care facility with attentive staff. One that at least peeks in a patients room to see if they're laying on the cement from falling off the bed multiple times because they're too lazy to lower the bed to the ground for an AT FALL RISK patient!! MARYCREST MANOR is beautiful on the outside, but definately NOT a place inside for patients unable to care for themselves too well. Located in livonia, mi. 5 1/2 mile rd and middlebelt. Once they get a person in there, it's hell trying to reach someone for an update on anything.
No idea as to where they find their useless, do nothing, know nothing staff!
The only thing they have going for them is their physical therapy dept/personnel. They are wonderful, caring people. Too bad the others can't even wipe a bottom, lower a bed to the floor, change a brief, change clothes, help brush teeth, get wiped down with a wet cloth at least or put barrier creme on a completely raw bottom with open sores caused by their neglect!! Make sure you TAKE BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES and/or have a hospital check out the patient from head to toe and DOCUMENT IT before you place them anywhere....I DID! No matter what place your loved one goes to, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT the condition of their skin, hair, teeth and especially their private parts from a Doctor, nurse or if you're the only caregiver then yourself. People that come out of there even from 3 weeks of therapy are very lucky if E-COLI and a UTI is the only problem they get away with from this place! If others show proof of neglect also, they can be shut down and fined. Then watch them "clean up" their act, hire reputable staff and get rid of the dead weight.

Do not, I repeat, do NOT send your loved one here unless they can basically take care of themselves and don't really need to be in a facility. The ONLY thing this place has going for it, is that it is beautifully decorated...that's it. If that is what you care about, then this is the place for you. If you care about making your loved one comfortable, or making sure they are included in activities, or taken care of the proper way, then I STRONGLY advise you to look beyond Marycrest. If Marycrest accepts you into their facility, then we should take that to mean that they have evaluated your loved one and can properly care for them. The staff here spends more time watching TV and on their phones than taking care of residents. Unless your loved one can basically do everything for themselves, this may not be the right place for you. Please make sure you ask all the right questions if you are thinking about sending your loved one here, as they seem to accept everyone and then not provide proper care.

i would walk in the room and garbage was all over the floor. no one answers the call button. staff sleeping or on cell phones. staff was very rough with the patient. staff had sarcastic remarks, bad attitudes...etc. soiled diapers for hours on end creating serious rashes. no bed sheets changed for days. poor food. other patients in same situation with needing special care and getting none. place claims to be this and that but in all reality just another mediocre run place with mediocre workers

By far one of the worst facilities in Livonia. Expect your parent or loved one to sit for hours without being checked or changed. They claim a patient is supposed to be lifted out of their bed every 2 hours, Good luck with that there. We were seeing 5 hours plus ON A GOOD DAY and we were lucky if they sat him up ONE time on most days.
As for their physical therapy department, expect the least amount of attention and work possible from their staff who is basically on their cell phones most of the time as it is.
They will put the patient in front of a machine and walk away. No monitoring or guidance.
If it was not for my mom to sit and baby sit him there, they would have messed up his medicine several times and given him the wrong doses at the wrong time. She corrected them on a daily basis and had to literally beg them to do anything and TIP the nurses to get them to do things such as change him. If your press the call button, be ready to wait for an hour or more.
Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and AVOID THIS PLACE. Do your homework and read the reviews. You will be glad you did.
This is one facility that only cares about the dollar signs, not your loved one
Do a google search on the reviews of this place. The truth is out there...... Everyone should know what a crap hole this place is.
Mother stayed here

My mother stayed her for 2 weeks January 2019. While the OT and PT staff were very good and I would recommend them, the nursing staff and care here is absolutely terrible. My mother fell two days after being admitted. Her caregiver arrived to find her laying on the hard tile floor flat on her back. She injured her back. She called for help. The aids arrived, didn't check to see if my mom was bleeding, had broken any bones, simply picked her up and put her in a wheelchair and left. Nurse came later after my mom's caregiver asked for Tylenol for pain. She arrived and again didn't check to see if my mom was injured. Told our caregiver she had to file a report. That was her only concern. No one returned to check on my mother for the next 8 hours except to bring Tylenol and nighttime medicine despite assurances that they are required to conduct neurological tests after a fall. After 1 1/2 months I finally received a call from the Director of Nursing. She told me that the report showed the nursing staff had responded appropriately. If you care about your loved ones, DO NOT, put them in this facility. Nursing staff spends all their time on cell phones and talking among themselves. Your loved one will not receive the attention that they need.

I stayed in this facility for nearly 3 weeks after surgery complications from ankle surgery. Every issue the patients and their families is true, they are understaffed, and deliberately have been overheard at lunch saying “ I’m finishing my lunch let her sit on the toilet”.it is agony to set in wet underwear constantly ringing for help, only to hear staff giggle and play games.the woman across the hall was desperate for help, crying plantively for help! This place is a nightmare. The higher ups act like their listening but do nothing. I ended up having to spend a Kong’s Ransom on a private nurse because I was always left alone and couldn’t move. SHAME OS THIS FACILITIY AND NURSES IN IT! TAKE MY ADVISE AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!
