American House Southland is a very nice, very pleasant, and very clean place. I highly recommend it. It's certain to be comfortable there. We chose that place because we found out that there were other residents that my parents knew, so that was nice. The staff has been very polite and very caring. They have live music on Friday afternoons, a nice pond that they can walk around with benches, a small library (I took my mother there to get a book today), a beauty shop, a game room, a little movie room, and just all kinds of things.

My sister was at American House Southland for respite care. It was very clean and everyone was very friendly and very informative. The room she had was very nice. It was a two-bedroom unit and it was on the second floor, so she had to use the elevator, which was OK. She was in a wheelchair in the beginning and she had someone that would assist her in getting around from her room to the dining room. Then she began using her walker more. Everything was easily accessible and she had no problems there that I know of. They also had a hair salon, a doctor on-site, and aides that would help her with different things. Everything worked out great and everybody was very on top of things. So, we're very pleased. I had one meal there on Easter Sunday and it was very nice, too.

We went to see American House Southland. The people were friendly. The building was clean, and they had a lot of activities. They had a movie room and a game room. The apartments were very, very nice. If I had to go into assisted living, I would go there. The furniture in the rooms is nice. They rooms are clean, and everything is up-to-date. It's a very nice place. The staff who assisted me took us through the whole building. I liked what I saw.

My mother has moved into American House Southland. It's been great. They have everything that she was looking for. She has a good-sized living room, a small kitchen, a nice bathroom, and a bedroom. She's got a sliding glass door. The staff is great. Any problems we've had, they've got them taken care of. The food according to her is good. I'd give them a 10 with the way they've treated her so far. The staff members are nice. If they know that she hasn't come down for a meal, they're down to check on her. Value for money is excellent. They have a ton of activities. They've got people come in and sing once in a while, there's a library that's got over 500 books, they've got over 200 puzzles, a built-in little movie theater, popcorn, bingo, and once a week if you sign up, they'll take you shopping for a day. They have everything you could ask for.

I had a nice visit to the American House Southland. They were very kind and showed me everything. The rooms were nice and clean. Everything seemed to be well organized. We spoke to one lady who was very helpful and very kind. The layout was good, if you're looking for assisted living; it's just not what my mom and her husband was looking for.

My mother was in American House Southland in Taylor which was a very nice and clean facility. All the people there seemed very caring and very concerned with their patients' health. They had a lot of activities for the people there, so that was good. She was in assisted living.
They have a walking area and there's a pond at the back so a lot of areas for the people to go out. They can get out of their rooms and go visit different areas of the facility. All the food that she had was very good. They were served in the room and it was just good food. She liked it so much and it was well-balanced.

Dad is moving into American House Southland tomorrow. I liked that they could have visitors. There are no restrictions on visiting. It's really, really clean, and they have all sorts of activities for the seniors. The price is pretty good too. They have bingo and happy hour for them on Fridays. They have movies, arts and crafts, and they have an in-house barber shop. The staff was great. She helped me find a room for my dad. He's gonna be living in a shared apartment with someone. She was very helpful, showed me around the place, and kept in touch with me. She even held the room for me to make sure that my dad was gonna get that shared room. The dining room looked very inviting.

American House Southland wasn't a bad-looking facility, but I wasn't as impressed with the lady that took me around the tour. She was more reserved, not as outgoing and talkative as the other one we toured. It's just my own personal feeling between the two ladies that took me around. They have a patio and they have a pond but all the trees were blocking the view.

We toured American House Southland. It was taken care of and was well groomed. The people were nice, and the clients were nice too because I got to talk to the clients as we were walking through. It was very nice and very kept up. They were working with the epidemic, and they were finally opening up some places. You didn't see a whole lot of people walking around and interacting with people because it was still during the pandemic. They were just opening the building back up where the people could go down to the dining room and stuff like that.
They didn't have anything out and they weren't giving anything to anybody, but they offered this bottled water, which was okay because it was hot that day.
I was impressed because they have a wall full of puzzles that the people were taking back to their rooms and doing them. They have a movie theater room. It's on the television, and every Friday or Tuesday (I think) they have a movie night and serve them popcorn and stuff like that. They can watch whatever movie they decide and if they don't want to engage with everybody, they're allowed to take a movie back to their room and watch that. They have church, a game room, and they have a little bit of everything for them all. You're talking to an old, retired nursing assistant from a nursing home. So when I give them this quality, it's coming from the heart because I worked with those type of people. I was very impressed of what they had there for the people. I would have had no problem putting my parents there.

My brother is at American House Southland. We liked the affordability, and there were a number of things that made us feel very comfortable with it. His room is very adequate, clean, and very suitable for his purposes. He's been doing fine. The activities are limited, and right now, they don't go into the dining area because of COVID.

American House Southland wasn't that big, but the people were older than me, and I'm very active. The food wasn't so nice. A lot of the people were in wheelchairs just sitting around in the lobby and not doing anything. It was small, clean, and old fashioned, but they were fixing up a few rooms. The staff was nice showing us around and offered us something to eat. They had decent parking and nice landscaping with trees and flowers. The rooms they showed me looked pretty nice, and they were getting it fixed up with new paint and up-to-date stove and refrigerator. The dining room looked like a cafeteria and it's small. It wasn't exciting to come in to and eat. The facility was average.

I loved American House Southland. It was lovely. What stood out was how the workers were treating the people who were there. They were having activities when we went, and I was very impressed. They interacted with the seniors and were very personable. They knew their names and that meant a lot. They were very professional but also kind and loving, so I loved it. The place was very clean, neat, and organized. The family members can be reassured that their family members will be taken care of right.

We toured Southland. The inside and outside was very clean, well-kept, and beautiful. It made me want to go and live there. The apartments were accessible, especially for my father who needed a wheelchair, and the bathroom was very large. We were looking at a 1-bedroom and 2-bedrooms, and there was a lot of space, and we thought he and my mother would be very comfortable there. The staff was absolutely wonderful, took us on a tour, answered our questions, and never put pressure on us at all. There's nothing bad I can say about that place.

American House Southland is close to my friends, and I have friends who live here. It is also close to my church. I am learning how to do ceramics -- which I have never done -- and I do jewelry. We have our own bus and driver, and we just go wherever they decide. I am very happy here. I am in a wheelchair, and they help me with everything. The staff people are very approachable. Any time I need to talk to one of them, I can, and I enjoy talking to them. We have a movie theater. I belong to Red Hats, and they afford me the use of the activity room at night, if I want to, or the movie theater for free, which is wonderful. They have ceramics and jewelry making, we have a wonderful preacher here who has 2 services a week, and we have a church that comes in for the Catholics and another one that comes in for the Baptists, which I am. So we have 3 opportunities for Baptists to go to church and 1 opportunity for Catholics every week. Every Friday and every holiday, we have a party.

This is place is OK but beware, if the power goes out your loved ones are on their own. The place has no backup generators, as I speak the power is out and the temperature tonight is going down into the teens. The poor people in there could freeze, but American House is doing nothing for them. For a place that houses helpless seniors this is unconscionable.

We chose American House Southland for my parents because of the location for the most part. They have 10 children, and it's kind of centrally located. They get three meals a day, and the patio was nice. They have some activities but my parents aren't really into all that. They play shuffle board, they have music day, ceramics, movies, and outings every once in a while. Everybody is very friendly, and I think they are happy there, so I like it.

American House was OK, but I liked other places better. The people working there were friendly. The common dining area was nice. The apartments were nice with options for one, two, or three bedrooms. It was just more inconvenient for me to get to.

My mother-in-law is at American House Southgate. We chose this place because she can put her wheelchair into the bedroom and bathroom. The other reason was because of the price; it was 2000 per month, and she was given a 6-month discount for people who are moving in. The food was good too.

American House is fully staffed, and it is a nice size room. My dad is very comfortable there. The staff is friendly, and they seem to be pretty caring. He is happy with the selection of food daily. He has a one-bedroom apartment -- living room, dining area, and a bathroom. There is accommodating closet space and storage space. There is a balcony and a kitchen with a stove and a refrigerator. They do have exercise programs and different activities. I don't know if my dad participates in a lot of their activities, but they have a walking group exercise program, they coordinate different events with the community where they take the residents out just to see that, and they have a baseball night where they go out to the baseball games. It has been fine so far.

American House was nice and the location was good. The food could be better. I liked the setup of the apartments. They have bus service for trips to and from shopping and doctor’s appointments. The staff was very knowledgeable.

My mother has been a resident at this facility for about 4 years. I looked at at least a dozen other places in the metro Wayne area before choosing this one. One thing I have learned over the last 5 years since my mothers stroke is that there is good and bad in every situation. Trying to care for aging, sick relatives is very stressful and it is never easy to leave their care in the hands of others. At this location, I am happy to say it is almost always good. The staff overall have been very friendly and helpful. The food is good. The apartments are well kept and they respond quickly if any problem develops with the unit. The American House Management team is also very pro safety which is so comforting when you can't be there yourself.

I did try to visit American House in Taylor. I just wasn't happy with that, but I couldn't put a finger on it. It was just a feeling. I didn't feel as comfortable in it as I did in the other facility. Everybody was nice to me, and everybody was accommodating. I just didn't feel comfortable for some reason there. I didn't think that my mother was going to feel comfortable either. It was just a gut feeling or a kind of intuition thing. The staff was very helpful, and they were very kind. They answered any questions that I had. They did have some vacancies, and they showed me the rooms. The rooms were tiny, but I can't expect it to be huge and spacious because they don't have the room and the price will go up. Regardless of what the room was or the staff, I just didn't feel comfortable. I saw the dining room, but I didn't eat there. They did have a bus, and a bunch of them were getting ready to go to the grocery store. They could use that bus for doctors' appointments too, but they have to reserve it a couple of days ahead.

My mother and I visited American House. She didn't like the place. The staff who assisted me during my visit was good and friendly. I haven't really tried their food or observed their activities. All the rooms had patios, but my mother didn't like it.

American House was within our price range. It was brand new, just opened up. Mother got a brand new apartment that was freshly painted with new carpet. She is pleased with the apartment because it's laid out very similar to what she had before. I think she's as happy as she can be in the condition she's in. There are not a whole lot of people there. I didn't think she'd get lost in the shuffle. There are like 80 people in it so it's relatively small.
The building is a refurbished building and they need to fix the heat because the heat is stuck on high all the time. They've already changed out all the tubs and made them shower stalls. They don't have the kitchen totally set up yet. They bring the food in from another American House. The other American House is only a mile down the road. Once they get those things done, I don't think that there'll be anything to complain about.
I do know that they have card parties and they have different types of trips to places and they have movie nights but my mother doesn't participate. The staff is all very young but they're very nice. I like the caregivers because they have just adopted my mom as if she was their own. One girl takes her to help her do chair exercises and she uses her as a sample for the other people to follow. It's the only way she can get my mom out of her apartment. They really go out of their way trying to get her out and about.

If I had to move my mom, my first choice would be American House. The staff seemed more outgoing and the facility was much brighter with much more natural light. It was more pleasing. We were familiar with the facility and the services because my aunt was a resident there years ago before she passed away. The accommodation was fine. She had two-bedroom apartment, which was very nice with a small kitchen and a balcony where she could have plants and things. I knew they had bingo and other activities. They could improve if they could be more affordable because they were just out of reach for a large number of retired people.

I did visit American House. I didn't like the neighborhood that it was in. The staff there was very accommodating and their rooms were about the same as with the other facility I looked at. They could improve though on the cleanliness of their facility, like their dining area and their lobby. With regards to food, in the scale of 1 to 5, I would give it a 3.

American House was too far away for my son so I didn't want to live there. The people were having fun though and they were doing Wii bowling. The staff seemed to be nice enough and interacted with the people. I liked best that interaction between the staff and the residents.

I was rather impressed with the facility. Given the things one sees on the news and reads online about conditions in assisted-living facilities, I was a bit anxious the first time I visited said relative (whom I will call M) at the American House. She seemed to enjoy living there when I spoke with her on the phone prior to visiting, but what one says and reality are not always the same thing. As I said, I was impressed. The grounds were well-maintained and looked very nice. The staff members I came in contact with were all very polite and helpful, and they seemed generally very fond of M, and she them. M had a tendency to distrust people by default, so there were a few she "wasn't sure of," but I imagine that would be the case anywhere she lived. She seemed to get along with the other residents well, also. There was one resident who seemed to dislike her, as she told me, but, again, such things happen anywhere.I did notice a bit of litter near one of the doorways, but I brought it to the attention of a staff member, and she seemed attentive enough, going off to find someone to attend to the problem.Overall, it seemed a good place for M to live. I would have rather her live with family -- everyone would I imagine -- but barring that possibility, it seemed a good, clean, healthy place for her.

I had been familiar with another American House not far from this location. I expected the same environment, hospitality and care. I will say that this particular American House was a step up from the other location. As a whole, it was cleaner, smelled better and the staff was polite. My girlfriend and I made about four visits to this place in a little over a year. I found it pleasant enough and the outside of the building was always immaculate- lawn and all. I had conversations with a few residents who thought that the food wasn't bad at all, and from what I could discern, most of the residents seemed to be well taken care of. I'm not sure how much the cost was to live at this particular home, so I can't compare the facility with any price context, but overall, it looked like an affordable place that provided solid care for its residents.
