My mother-in-law will be moving into Island City. We were impressed with it. The size of the room was very good, the facility was clean, and the people were nice. We were pretty happy with it. When we were there, there was an exercise class going on. The building was set up where the residents can walk. There's a circle around there where they can walk if they want. We saw an activity schedule and they had some games scheduled. Somebody would come in and play the piano and sing and another one comes in and works with them on crafts. It sounds like they have quite a bit to choose from if they wanted to do that. The studio apartment had a kitchenette.

My father is at Island City. He chose it because it is close to his home. He had a tour and met people there. The only thing is he has trouble with the menu, but I know they have a la carte, so I don't know what the problem is. He is just particular with his food is all. It's not dietary; it's just his preferences. The staff has been great. It's a beautiful facility. It seems to be clean and well-kept, and the room seems to be generous in size, and all of them have their en suite bathroom.

No one has ever contacted us from this facility with any information. I have called at least twice and left a message with no response. Very disappointed in their lack of response.

When it became apparent that Dad was going to need an assisted living alternative, I began to shop around a bit. Just as I was becoming somewhat discouraged with the options I had already looked into, I became aware of the Island City facility. Surprisingly, the building was only about four miles from my house so I drove over to have a look. I was pleasantly astonished with the facility itself and knew right away that we (Dad and I) wanted in. As luck would have it, a room was just then available and Dad went from recovery at the hospital to resident at Island City Assisted Living or ICAL as the old hands know it. Dad ended up living there for nearly two years and as his condition deteriorated, the very competent and capable staff transitioned his care to suit the increased need for assistance as we went along. Although I was initially impressed with the physical facilities of the building I came to know the greater value and importance of the developed relationship with the staff who tended to Dad's every need. Sadly, Dad passed away as the two year anniversary approached, but we cherish the relationships and love that were part and parcel of the ICAL experience. I would highly recommend that you give Island City Assisted Living consideration should you find yourself in need of supportive living arrangements for yourself or a loved one.

Island City is very nice, and we like that it doesn't look like a nursing home. Dad's room looks really good; it's not too big, at just the right size. We like the food a lot. The price is a little bit more expensive than some of the other homes, but the difference is his linens, his bed, and chest drawer are all included. I didn't have to move any of his furniture. My dad can walk to the big grocery store next to the place because there's a trail that he can take with his walker. The people communicate with me and let me know what's going on while the other places didn't. They have good activities for the residents and have men there, so Dad can communicate with them instead of with a bunch of women. I would recommend this place.

Island City helps the special needs’ people by employing them part-time to do basic chores around the place. It had a small theater where they have movie nights for maybe 20 people. It also had an ice cream parlor, which looked right out of 1950s. It’s a very nice-looking place. I would give it five stars for what I saw, but I’m not sure that it is going to fit my parents’ needs because I can’t remember if they had the memory care part.

This particular Island Assisted Facility was built about a year ago in my town of Eaton Rapids. I was not sure what the purpose of the building was as I drove by, but I figured that it must be something meaningful since the construction of it took a few years. On the outside, it is absolutely stunning. It looks very regal and very welcoming. I recently visited the facility for a job interview as a dietary aide/cook. As I walked around the facility, I was amazed at the simplicity that it had,along with the way that the workers treated the elderly living there. It is such an inviting and warm environment. Each room was somewhat like a suite and each of the staff individually visits and caters to the needs of every person that lives there. They are all genuinely kind and friendly, and I think that this is one of the best assisted living facilities I have ever visited.
