Avita of Stroudwater is in Westbrook, ME just off of I-95 and minutes from bustling downtown Portland ME. This 60-unit, state- of-the-art community, which focuses on memory care, is a joint venture of Burlington, Massachusetts-based Northbridge Companies and Portland, Maine-based Sandy River Company. The name, Avita, which translates to “For Life,” was inspired by our desire to create a safe and fulfilling environment where nurturing caregivers recognize each resident as a special and unique individual. Just because an individual may suffer from physical challenges or memory impairment does not mean they have lost their spirit. Our goal is simple – to make a positive difference in people’s lives by creating a special place where residents can thrive and families can have peace of mind. That place is Avita.

Thank you to Avita, I was never aloud to say goodbye to my dying Grandfather. “Compassion visits”. Is that what it takes for his family to say goodbye and comfort him in his last breaths?
My grandparents have not only been exposed to COVID by a worker once, but twice. And I still could not say goodbye to my grandfather?
Not to mention, they also went out of their way to go through my grandfathers belongings, pack them up, and dump his belongings out on the loading dock like his belongings were garbage without communicating to his family.
They also decided to take my grandfather’s wedding band, which he was supposed to be buried with on December 4th, and still have yet to return it.
They are also trying to charge my deceased grandfather for the time it took them to pack his belongings (which again, they decided to do themselves without communicating to his family)
So many days, hours, and minutes stolen. Not being able to communicate with my grandfather. Just to tell him I love him one last time and that I was so extremely lucky to have him as my grandfather.
I don’t understand how an assisted living home can be so inconsiderate. Showing no compassion, no communication, and to try snagging some greedy money from my deceased grandfather one last time. Absolutely disgusting.
I highly do NOT recommend placing your loved one in this incredibly selfish, non-compassionate home. Shame on you Avita.

I like Stroudwater Lodge because it's like a five-star hotel. It's very upscale and modern, which is different from the other senior places we've looked at. The people are excellent and very good. The place has a lot of acreage, it's very well laid out, and really nice. It's also located closely to several large hospitals. We looked at a 1-bedroom apartment, which is relatively small, but really nice and upscale. They have a gym, activities like bingo, lectures, they go on trips, and so on. We also ate there and the food was good.

The service at Stroudwater Lodge is excellent. The staff is great, they're very friendly people. Their amenities include a salon, theatre, and they have a bar with a happy hour in the afternoon. They also have activities for their residents.
