My mom was in a facility named Carroll Lutheran Village. It was not a good scenario. She never got out of the therapy. She had terminal cancer. She was always in the skilled nursing part. That place was very nice. We were very fortunate to be able to utilize it. The doctors and the attending nurses, I mean everybody, had a lot of compassion. The staff was very good. The facility was very nice, very modern, and very clean. They had spacious areas. They had a cafeteria. They had social activities. My mom didn't participate in that, but they had all that available for the people who were there. They seemed very happy.

My mother went to Carroll Lutheran Village for rehabilitation after her hospital visit. I was disappointed with the lack of progress that she made there. Her stay was shortened. They felt that she was not progressing and therefore, they could not keep her on Medicare and they wanted to discharge her. I was extremely disappointed because they wanted to discharge on a Friday, which would then have me move her into a new facility on a weekend. Weekends are not the time to move anybody because the help situation is never the same on a weekend. When we got there, it was very disorganized. My mother did not get her belongings in a timely fashion. I understand they have to wash everything, but she did get her phone. I bought her a little radio, and she didn't get that. She didn't get anything until I called and had somebody track it down. Their communication was extremely poor. I would make many, many phone calls before I would finally get somebody to call me back. Nobody knew what the other person had been doing. There was no overall chart for my mother that could tell me this is what the situation is or this is her progress. It was very disorganized as far as I'm concerned, and I was displeased with the lack of progress Mom made. The staff members were nice, but they were not prompt in getting back to me with anything. Physical appearance of the facility was nice.

As soon as we arrived on location we were greeted immediately friendly residents and staff. They started out by taking us on a facility tour. I must say we were quite impressed. As soon as I get to an age where I am looking for a retirement home this will be top of my list. There is a putting green, tennis courts and transportation to areas in the city of westminster. They have brand new homes that just went up for those who don't want to live in apartment/condo style homes. The food there is very good as well. They have multiple places to eat for the residents and unlike some places like these it taste like real food. As well as a retirement community Carroll Lutheran has assisted living as well for those who need assistance and can't provide it on their own. Carroll Lutheran is the whole package for a retirement/assisted living home and everyone that I have talked to has given it rave reviews.
