I did not care for Lorien Taneytown. They let me sit for half an hour and wait after my appointment time, and I wasn't happy about that. It just didn't appeal to me. I couldn't really get a sense of the living atmosphere there. It's like everybody was closed up in their own room. We were just shown the dining room and an empty bedroom.

My mother moved into Lorien Taneytown and our experience so far is very good. Her accommodation is very nice (it's a one-bedroom). Their staff was excellent; they have been going above and beyond. There are lots for the residents to do, it's a very lively place, and it's very nice. There's a book club, bingo, karaoke, they have a happy hour where somebody comes in to sing eon Friday afternoons, they have a library, and they do exercise classes. That's just a few of their activities. Their dining room is lovely and my mother loves their food. Their variety is very good. They have a set menu, and if the residents don't want that they're free to order anything else.

My mom lived at the assisted living facility for two years. The facility itself is very nice, however the staff are overworked. Some are very caring but many just see it as a job. Many times my mom would ring her bell and have to wait 20 minutes for the aide. If she rang it again, they complained that she rang the bell too much. The administration is terrible and will charge you extra every chance they get. The highest level of care is no different than the lowest level of care, but it costs 3 times as much. The food started out as decent, but deteriorated after about a year. The activities are minimal and uninteresting. I would not recommend this facility if your parent needs any additional attention and cannot do things for themselves.

Lorien Taneytown seems upbeat. All the people that work there seem to treat the residents well. My mother has two friends that are also there. They have elevators in the building. There's a shopping center next door. It's new, and it's like a home. They have an exercise room, a movie theater, and a pub.

Lorien Taneytown is wonderful. They have activities. I was there yesterday, and they were playing Horseshoes in the lobby. The rooms are very spacious. My aunt has a 1-bedroom, so hers is really spacious. I have eaten there; the food is very good, and there is a wide selection. The people are very friendly, they help you and do what you need them to do, and they really work with me to make sure that my aunt is getting good care. They are very activity-oriented. They try to get the residents active, and they care about the residents. They know all the residents, and they have like 50 something people, but I can walk around, and everybody is calling everybody else by name. So they take the time to get to know their residents.

Nursing staff I have encountered are "just there": no smiles, little eye contact, little actual contact with patients. I've spoken to nurse's twice and both times received condescending attitudes. Nurse's aids are better, but it takes them so long to answer the call button my mother has not made it to the bathroom several times. She says she feels embarrassed and humiliated when that happens. Thank goodness my mom will be leaving soon and she will never rehab here again.

Lorien Taneytown was good. The rooms were sufficient for what we needed, and the staff was hospitable. The physical therapy room was fine and OK. The price is a little bit less, so it has better value, but it's a little far.

My mother is living in Lorien. She thinks the food is excellent. The staff is wonderful, and the quality of care is excellent. The apartment is clean, more than adequate, and she’s more than happy there.
