This facility has really deteriorated as far as staffing is concerned. The unit manager of the Chesapeake unit is very rude and needs some serious help on how to talk to not only the residents, but her staff. The Chesapeake unit is split into 3 hallways, they have 2 RNs that work together on A hall, but only 1 LPN that take care of B and C hall, and you can tell that this poor nurse is wore right out. Management leadership is in need of a major overhaul !

It was a very clean center and some of the staff was very delightful. The center was split into two parts, assisted living and the Alzheimer's center, which is where my grandmother was housed. They had plenty of activities for the residents and even had a WII system to keep them active. They always delivered breakfast, lunch and dinner on time but sometimes my grandmother would complain that the food was a bit too bland. Before I enrolled my grandmother there, I was under the impression she would have a room to herself but she was assigned a roommate. She didn't get along very well with her first roommate but the second one was ok. While they did have activities for the residents to do, some of the staff was lazy and lined some of the more immobile residents in the hallway and left them there for extended periods of time and some of the staff didn't seem that well trained but were given positions of authority. I would and have recommended the Chesapeake woods center for those on a tight budget.

Chesapeake Woods in Cambridge MD was superb facility. My Grandmother was a residence for 3 years and I visited her quite often. The thing that really blew me away about Chesapeake woods was the staff would always plan activities for the residence and made sure they socialized with each other. They had arts and crafts, outings to various events around town and they even had a Nintendo Wii in the common area. The food was also great, I would frequently take a plate home with me when I visited her. If I had to address a complaint about Chesapeake Woods is that when I visited her, it would always be so scorching hot in the halls and in her room, I could hardly take it. The residence never complained and they seemed comfortable but I with there was another area for visitations with a better temperature control. In my opinion, Chesapeake Woods should be the blueprint of what a nursing home should be.
