We're considering Oak Crest in Parkville, Maryland for my friend. We want to get her in a place where she can socialize with other people her age, and get to do activities. It's a great place, it's top-notch. They have care right there in the facility, doctors, therapy, and so on, you name it. It's a pretty large facility, the food is very good and they have a top-notch chef there. It's like being on a cruise ship, she doesn't have to do anything as she's independent living. She will have her own kitchen in her apartment if she wants to cook. But they also offered two meals a day which is included in the cost. And when you go to dinner, it's like going to a restaurant where you sit down at the table and pick what you want from the menu, and they come over, take the menu and go fix your orders. It's a lap of luxury.

Medical care is inadequate. One Dr. taking new patients. Has be taking unexplained leave time. No appointments available with other Drs. My wife has had two appointments rescheduled (over 5 months) and who knows if it may be reschedule.
One of the "sit down" restaurants needs total revamping if possible. It was designed to be a buffet. Servers take your order and go over to the buffet and your order is put on your plate and returned to you. Vegetables or often very over cooked. Will not eat there any more. This puts pressure on other restaurants for reservations. If you want at one of the other restaurants, you must get up during the night to get a reservation at a reasonable time.

I'm a resident at Oak Crest. I'm satisfied with where I am, and I think I'll continue to live here. I'm in independent living. I've been here for 11 years now. It is a very nice facility. They've just done remodeling completely and there are a lot of activities here. The food is sufficient. I feel very safe here and comfortable. When I moved here, I had to bring nothing except furniture that I would need. They provided bedroom, living room, and kitchen furniture. They provided everything. It's a very nice arrangement. Everything I needed to move in was here.
It's a very safe place. I have a lot of friends here that enjoy playing pool with and that sort of thing and plenty of activities. It's a nice facility. The staff is very nice, easy to get along with, and very efficient. They have a completely staffed fitness center, a swimming pool, and all kinds of activities with recreation and exercise equipment. It's just a pleasant experience. I pay $3000 a month and that is comfortable for me. I'm 91 years old, so I have enough to see me through this and I think I'll be OK.

Oak Crest was a fantastic place. Everybody was super friendly. We talked to several residents and it's a very amazing place. It looks like they have everything you need there. The lady was very confident. She answered all the questions, was very nice, and even followed up several times with me. We looked at three different units and they all were very nice. They have a swimming pool, a fitness center, and walking trails, and they have every club you could ever think of.

My mom was a resident of Oak Crest. It's one of those where you have your own apartment, and you're independent. Then if you need assisted living, you could move to that. If you needed dementia care, they had that there as well. My mother was still on her own in just her apartment there. The facility was very good. It met all her needs.
She was able to join a lot of the activities that were there. She played bridge once a week. While she was still up to it, in her 80s, she was swimming there. Up until a few years ago, she did line dancing there. They have a lot of activities. It's a very good community. I thought the food was pretty good. I've eaten there a good number of times over the past eight years. The staff members were very helpful, particularly the social worker there. It was fairly pricey.

What I liked best about Oak Crest is the spaciousness, a lot of wall space, a lot of windows, friendly staff, and good salespeople. Everybody seemed happy. You can't fake happiness when you're walking all around a facility that large. It is huge. You would expect for a place that big, there might be some malcontents or some discontented people; I didn't see any of them. They were very friendly, and we certainly walked the halls quite a bit to look at different room designs. Like all places, they sell by square foot. You have a certain ranking of apartments, each one getting bigger in size. Some of them have balconies or patios; some of them don't, and some of them are one-bedroom.
They're well organized. When you first go there, you are dealing with a sales staff. I didn't get to see the kitchen staff or anything like that, but they had contractors working on some of the rooms and painting. When they have people leave, they rehab the rooms for the next family, couple, or individual. They were doing a very nice job.
Everything was beautiful there. They go out of their way to keep things up. The staff all seemed to know each other, and they were happy. The facilities looked excellent. From what I could see, the food looked good. The amenities that they have are certainly very high with a lot of perks. You don't possibly need everything that you get. Sometimes you have to pay for things you don't really want, but it's part of the package (like buying a car).
With Oak Crest, you buy a condo. You move in, and you have a monthly maintenance fee. The condo can range anywhere from $150,000 to $500,000 (depending upon the size), whether you get a basic studio apartment or a two-bedroom, two-bath, luxurious place. You live there and when you die, your heirs sell that place back for 90% of what you paid for. If you moved into the place at $500,000, and your monthly maintenance fee is $3,000. 90% of the $500,000 you paid, they will start taking away $3,000 every month to support you if you can't pay that maintenance fee.
The maintenance fee also calls for some meals and other amenities. If you lived a very, very long time, eventually that monthly service fee eats up all that money that you had put down for your apartment (that 90% that your family's supposed to get back). They will keep you because they have a benevolent fund. They will keep you free of charge because you've been a resident there, and you put your money down in good faith. They've actually had that money to use during the course of all these years, so they can afford to keep you there.

I've gone to check out Oak Crest in Parkville. I'm not moving until next month but I liked it because of the amenities, and the friendliness of everybody. It's the independent living I'm going to. I'll be 30 minutes away from my sister so that's also another reason I liked it. They have a beautiful swimming pool, a nice exercise room, and beautiful grounds. You don't have to go outside like in the rain or the snow or the cold since it's all enclosed. They have long hallways that connect all the buildings. They have craft rooms, outside gardening, and a walking patio. They will come in and do some upgrades to your apartment if you want something done. The staff was very nice. They answer all your questions, everyone seems friendly and it's just a beautiful place. The food was delicious too.

I visited some friends at Oak Crest in Parkville. It was very nice, very clean, and it seems well organized. They are in the independent living, and they live by themselves.
I thought the facility was nice. It was easy for people with wheelchairs and elderly people; it seems to be quite well organized for that kind of clientele.
I also went to an event there and tried their food; it was delicious. I was a volunteer at a senior center, and it was a dinner for the volunteers.

Oak Crest was excellent. They had everything, they had all kinds of amenities. Everything was clean, and they were well-staffed with professional people. The facilities were beautiful and the rooms were clean, well-furnished, and very nice. They had spas, an indoor swimming pool, a park area, and all kinds of indoor stuff like a library, game room, etcetera. The dining room was very good. It was very nice.

Mom will move to Oak Crest on June 1st. They have 8 restaurants, a swimming pool, a gym, day trips, bus trips, in-apartment cleaning, room service, and they have a benevolence plan. If you run out of money, theyll keep you and support you. They have 2-bedrooms, den buildings, huge patio condos, and some rooms just have balconies. They go from 2-bedroom den, to 2-bedroom, and studio. Shes going to independent. The food is all chef made, and they have 8 separate chefs for the 8 restaurants. Its very expensive, but you get a lot for your money.
Mice as Your Roommate

Oakcrest is beautiful and expensive as long as you don’t mind living with an infestation of MICE in your apartment. My Grandmother is very clean and has a well kept apartment on the independent living side of the loop. An apartment that costs quite a bit of money. She also has MICE. Just a few months ago she had a fly infestation and couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. The exterminator that was sent to her place A WEEK LATER said it was because the flies lay their egg in the dead, decaying mice that live in her walls. In the Rehab building it is the same. The little brown mice just come out in the rooms IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. Unacceptable, Oakcrest!

Oak Crest is a huge campus with a golfing tee. They also have multiple buildings and tunnels running underground so you don't have to go outside. It was a really nice place, but I prefer something smaller. Their apartments are pretty big and they have all kinds of clubs, swimming, dancing, and all kinds of activities for seniors. They also have special care places where you need help in certain areas health-wise, and they also have a rehab center.

Oak Crest had a lot of activities and fit right into my lifestyle. I saw the apartments, and you could bring in your own furniture if you want. You could also cook there. For the meals, you have to pay separately. They had a swimming, organized activities, lectures on art appreciation, and book or memoir writing from professors at local colleges.

My mother is on the list in Oak Crest and we heard from them yesterday that they do have an apartment available. They have a swimming pool, bus trips, they do bingo, arts and crafts, computer classes and they go to shows and shopping. The staff is wonderful. They are fully staffed. They have a wide range of healthy food on the menu.

Oak Crest is a lovely place, but expensive. They have very small apartments and usually the residents there do not stay in their apartment, they go outside for activities. The staff were very helpful and they really care about the residents. We have eaten there and the food is excellent. It's a lovely site, it's just we didn’t have enough money to be able to go there.

I have some family members living at Oak Crest Village. It's a very nice facility and they keep the place up to date. They have a very nice apartment with bedroom. You can pick a balcony if you like or a patio if you want to stay on the ground floor with full bath and full kitchen with microwave and stove. The meals are served by a chef. They have indoor pool, a computer lab, and a gymnasium. They have a couple of banks on the premises. They also have shops. They have everything that you could possibly want. They have a doctor and a pharmacy open 24 hours a day. I really would like to go there. The facility requires quite a lot of deposit depending on the kind of apartment you want.

We move into Oak Crest. We are in an apartment with two bedrooms: one huge and one regular size bedroom. It has one and a half bath and a kitchen. The staff has been wonderful and helpful so far.

This is a beautiful complex, but I will not go to Oak Crest because they are very expensive. Their pricing is just for the rich.

All of my experiences with Oak Crest Village were very positive. My grandparents seemed to love living there and it was a very positive time for them. The facilities were beautiful and well kept and full of activities and resources for the residents (i.e., library, hair salon, game rooms, etc.). Perhaps the only complaint I might have had was the demeanor of some of the nurses in the nursing home section of the facility. They were not quite as respectful and kind as one would hope to expect from nurses working with the elderly at the end of their lives. Aside from that, however, the residence is fantastic and I'm glad my grandparents got to spend their final years there.

I'm very impressed with it so far. The people couldn't be nicer, all the sales people, everyone's trying to help you out getting in and it's been wonderful. I haven't had any problems whatsoever and they've bent over backwards do everything that I've asked, at least so far. I appreciate all their help.
