My husband fell ill and found himself in a nursing home. We hated that place but I promised he would get the best. And very close to home we found Oakcrest. He was thrilled. He told all of his friends, if you save your money, you can live in a place this wonderful. He described Oakcrest nursing home, like a cruise ship, without the water. He felt sorry for those whose minds were not aware of the beauty around them. He had his mind until the end. He loved all the staff and they loved him. Sadly he was only there for one month. His last month was very happy. And they were his own words.

I am so happy that my mother moved to Oak Crest Village. She loves it there, it is like being on a lifelong cruise with no worries about taking care of your home or meals. The key is to move in when you are well because they won't accept you if your medical problems are too complicated. The staff is wonderful and are always so friendly and helpful. They really look out for their residents. We looked at other retirement communities when my mother purchased the unit, but we liked the fact that Oak Crest Village is a fee for service community which means that you don't have to pay the enormous entrance fee like you do at the other continuing care retirement communities in the area. Why pay hundreds of thousands of extra dollars when you may not need that care.

Overall, my experience with this facility was quite pleasant. My aunt was treated with respect and cared for very well, and we never heard a complaint from her. She had the same room for several years, always made bright with flowers and open windows. The staff would always recognize us and welcome us, and my aunt loved her caretakers. I remember they had lots of movies running in the common area, which my aunt loved to sit in on most of the day. Most of the residents were friendly, as well, but many had memory problems. The staff had to have extra patience to deal with everyone, since oftentimes the residents needed to be reminded of nearly every single everyday activity they needed to do. One of my few complaints was that it was quite far from where I live, so it was generally difficult to get out to see my aunt without planning it a few weeks in advance.

I was anxious when I first learn that my grandmother would be admitted into Oakcrest Village. Although I heard good comment about this assistant living facility I was still skeptical. The first day that I visited her, I was pleased from what I saw at this specific facility. From my background and experiences, the stereotypical image of an assistant living facility is that it is understaffed, odorous and holds a cold uninvited type of atmosphere. Upon visiting my grandmother this stereotype was quickly reevaluated. Not only were there an adequate number of nurses and nursing assistants at hand, but the facility was extremely clean and had such a home like feel to it! I was immediately greeted by smiling and helpful staff. The most important part my grandmother has improved drastically with her daily activities of living. Not only, she has become more active and has taken part in a large number group activities and has many opportunities to socialize and engage with friendly caring staff. I found it comforting that every time that I visited my grandmother, there always seems to be a Doctor on site. Opposed to other nursing homes I visited family at which the Doctor was on an "on-call" basis. Admitting a loved one to a competent nursing facility is so beneficial for families peace of mind and most importantly to your loved one.
