My dad is going to be in respite care at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. It meets his needs. It's excellent. I wouldn't place him anywhere where it isn't up to par. It's clean. It's a perfect setting. It's very well maintained. The staff who accommodated us was very knowledgeable. She has been there for a while. The dining area is clean and very well-organized. For activities, they go on field trips, they have entertainment that comes in, and they play bingo and games.

My brother is now at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. It's beautiful, very nice, and very well run. His room is very nice, the grounds are beautiful, and the facility is very organized. The staff is very nice. He is very well liked there. Before COVID, they had a lot of day programs like day trips, shopping trips, and a lot of group activities. It has been positive. He is pretty OK with the food there, he says it is good, and according to him, he is very happy with it. He is very happy there, and from what I've seen, it is very nice. It's a very beautiful facility, and the grounds are beautiful.

Charlotte Hall Veterans Home is hospital-like. It is free for veterans, and that's the appeal of it. It is very clean but definitely not homey. The rooms are just like hospital rooms. I am not impressed with that. They have a lot of activities, and they have a cafeteria for the residents. The staff members were good, and the residents seemed to get good care. The staff member who runs the place was very friendly, and she provided a lot of information.

I wouldn't go to Charlotte Hall. The only space they have is a 5-drawer dresser, one for the husband and one to the wife, a closet where you can put two or three outfits and a coat for the winter, and a big room. That was it, it's like a dormitory. They offer to eat lunch with them, but I didn't like the food. Even though the residents were a mixed population, I only saw one female in the assisted living and the rest are a lot of military men who sit around in wheelchairs. We saw a lady sitting over in a corner by herself. It was about an hour and a half away from home. They try to keep it nice. It's beautiful on the outside, with a flag coming up to the main entrance, but when you look around, it's a very old community. We toured on a Saturday, nobody was there except a bunch of residents milling around in their wheelchairs going to lunch. It's the only state-run place in Maryland where veterans' spouses can go.

Charlotte Hall Veterans Home has very clean rooms and a homey dining room. They bring their residents to outings. They have activities during holidays.

Charlotte Hall had a nice, big facility. We did talk to some of the people that were there and they seemed satisfied. It's for veterans. We didn't really see activities, but one of the residents said that they took bus trips. They seemed to be well staffed and the place was very clean. It wasn't that we didn't like the facility, but what was detrimental to us was it's in the middle of nowhere. There's no public transportation to it and it's not even close to public transportation.
