Ausburg was a great when my grandmother was first placed there. The staff was friendly and she was kept dressed nicely and clean. Over time we noticed staff attrition and quality of new staff was lower. The staff no longer take as good of care of my grandmother and also began prescribing Haldol stating she was combative. Never told my aunt or mother the original use of Haldol or it's side effects. Immediately we had her removed from the meds. My grandmother was not combative. She may have wanted attention and they were too busy or had limited staff to assist her. She lost many friends she made as a resident leaving her with very little will to live. She passed away there.

Augsburg Lutheran Homes & Village was clean. The people were friendly. The atmosphere was very nice. We were pleased with that one, and if we had to do anything, we would totally consider that one as one of the number one picks. We spoke to a couple of people there; they seemed to be happy, and that meant a lot because my mother was a friendly person. They serve more than one meal. They had books for people to read. They had karaoke. They played games like bingo. They had arts and crafts. They showed me a place where they do physical therapy. They supplied transportation to doctor's appointments. The staff was very friendly and informative.

My mother was at Augsburg Lutheran Home in n the nursing unit. They took excellent care of her. She was always neat and clean. She participated in lots of their activities and the pastor was very good to her. She loved the church services and she had a very sweet room mate. I felt she was content there and had very good care.

We have watched our loved one decline rapidly since her placement into Augsburg nursing home. In general the nursing home staff are looking for the easiest way to deal with the residents - as opposed to what is best for the residents. The management puts a strong emphasis on keeping their own boxes ticked - making sure residents are safe and secure but there is very little emphasis on the actual well-being of the people they are supposedly caring for. The residents are not pushed to maximise their abilities, instead, only their most basic needs are met. They are dressed, fed and have help with toileting but this is where it ends. Our loved one entered the nursing home with the ability to walk and use the bathroom but within days she was placed in a wheelchair and put in a diaper - just like all the other nursing home residents. Our understanding is that she is less of a risk if she sits in a wheelchair all day and this equals less work for staff. After several months in a wheelchair, she now has lost the ability to walk - and in turn, she has also lost her confidence and independence. With little structure and mental stimulation throughout the day, we have noticed a swift decline in our relative's cognitive abilities too. Like many people her age, she has a mild level of memory loss but she is still totally lucid and benefits greatly from interaction with others. Apparently there are activities scheduled throughout the week but nobody encourages the residents to attend and information about events is hard to come by. When we repeatedly requested an events calender for her room, we were met with an unhelpful and rude response from staff. Mostly residents congregate in the common dining area and sleep in their wheelchairs from pureed meal to pureed meal. There are also people in her unit in the advanced stages of dementia. They can't hold a conversation. Mostly they moan loudly and shout the same word repeatedly. Our usually bright and social relative has fallen into a depression and it's very clear why. This is a hopeless place. In addition, nobody has explained anything to us or our loved one about decisions being made in her regard - like moving her to different units (including a stint in the locked ward for severe dementia cases!!) and also the administration of anti-depressant medication. Regarding the locked ward, it turned out that they had some spare beds that they needed to be filled - to keep up numbers. If we hadn't opposed the decision, she would still be there. As for the medication, it was only when she started to experience life threatening side effects, that we discovered they had been administering this drug to her without consent. We requested that she be taken off it immediately. She needs structure and interesting activities throughout the day, not more drugs. She has essentially been treated like live stock in a processing facility - not a human being with thoughts, opinions and emotions. Please avoid this place! We learned the hard way and now we seem to be at the point of no return.

Augsburg Lutheran Home and Village was very comfortable. It had a lower rental cost. The staff was excellent. They seemed very caring to the people who visited. I looked at a one-bedroom. It was carpeted and had a bathroom. I looked at one with a den and one without. The dining room was perfectly fine. I didn’t see it busy and crowded.

I liked everything about Augsburg. The apartments were well-appointed and very home like. The layout was fine and for the moment it’s on the top of my list. Their appraising is reasonable and they have a lot of activities which the Lutheran church subsidizes. The rooms were fantastic, I liked the rooms the best there. Most of the rooms had a view into a garden, they have washers and dryers in most of the rooms and they have a regular bath and a guest bath.

We have visited Augsburg Lutheran Home and Village. We liked the facilities there. The fact that it was not too big and that our apartment will be on the first floor was very appealing. The apartments were nice and spacious.

Augsburg Lutheran would be my friend's first choice. It was a very nice facility. The staff was great. Their customer service people were good. They also had the same services and features as the other facilities we looked at. My friend was looking for a private room; however, when she went there, it was like a hospital with a curtain in between, and there would be two people in there and that was not what she wanted.

My parents spent their final 4 ½ years at Augsburg and we couldn't have made a better choice. Besides being a lovely facility and reasonably priced the care they received was everything we had hoped for. The staff at every level was so loving and attentive, but especially the angels that took care of them in the nursing level who really gave us peace of mind. This is the aspect you just can't know 100% ahead of time, and you WILL need, as elderly people often have frequent hospitalizations, followed by rehab (sub-acute care) in the nursing level, even if they are basically living independently in an apartment. My parents thrived whenever they needed some time in nursing, and they were able to visit each other daily whenever one needed a rehab stay, even though they were both wheelchair bound because the entire facility is under one roof. We were so fortunate that when my dad needed a place to spend his final hours he was "home at Augsburg" with a loving staff that he knew.

Great place! The staff is friendly and attentive. The facilities are very nice, the grounds are beautiful, and having a full-time pastor and chapel on site is a true blessing. Plus, Augsburg is the most affordable continuing care community around! You can't beat it for the value!
