Be aware that it is a money making machine. When I noted the monthly fee was more than a nice Manhattan coop, the manager said my parents would never have to spend another dime on healthcare. They were encouraged to cancel their longterm care insurance, and did. So, the deal is to keep the large entrance fee as people are pushed to assisted living, so the same apt gathers an additional entrance fee, returned to survivors minus 10%. The care in assisted living - they moved after her cancer surgery - was horrific. My mother's MD noted sores from no bathing and had to order baths resulting in them waking her at 5:00am every day; my father would hear slaps and crying. She ended up having a stroke, I believe due to being treated badly. My dad would leave my mother in the Sunroom and return to find her alone on the floor of their room. And I have photos of their bathroom with a two inch black border of filth edging the floor. When I noted and questioned these (and more) I was told to hire caregivers. And the nursing home/rehab was worse. My mother was forcibly given straight catheter procedures (people receive general anesthesia for that as it is so painful) in the middle of the night for two months due to scans showing more than 200 ccs of urine. We'd had conference calls when the head nurse had said this was constantly necessary so her bladder wouldn't burst. Finally, I thought to find out how much 200ccs were - around a half cup! No one ever does a straight catheter for that! I had to get a urologist to force them to stop, but when you're in the rehab/nursing home section the Ginger Cove MD is very difficult to go around. The hospital told my father he had to get my mother out of Ginger Cove. And he did. But then Ginger Cove delayed way after the written period to return the entrance fee. It's beautiful downstairs. But all rights are taken away quickly. As long as one never gets into their medical clutches and maintains control in their downstairs apartments, it's fine. Just overpriced.

My Mother recently had a three month stay at the Health Center. We were blessed that she was there and not in any other rehab facility. The staff was attentive, respectful, and personal. When Mom had one very minor issue with an aid - it was dealt with immediately by Management. The nurses and supervisors kept me up to date by calling me or just making the effort to come see me when I was visiting. Everyone went out of their way to make my Mom comfortable during her recovery. Special Thanks to Judy, Kim, Sara(s), Kalley, Sauma, and Meagan.

Ginger Cove was lovely. Actually I have a lot of friends that are residents there. It is a huge building. They have everything, but you have to buy the condo. They have the extended care all the way up to nursing home care. I had lunch there with friends, and it was very good. The dining area looked lovely too.

Ginger Cove was a beautiful community. I don't have anything derogatory to say except it's very expensive. They were marvelous. I don't have any complaints about them. Everybody was friendly. We saw the woodworking shop, art class, and the library.

My mother was a resident for 20 years until she died recently. The apartments are small, the food is mediocre at best, and the restaurant staff is inattentive. The nursing staff in the independent living section is overworked but do everything they can for the residents. The best part of Ginger Cove is the assisted living arrangements. I wish I had gotten my mother into that section earlier. Her quality of life would have been much improved. The nursing home section is a nightmare. My mother was left alone in her bed for 15 minutes while she was having a heart attack so the only person on duty could go wait for the paramedics. I was on the phone with her listening to her call out for somebody to be with her. That is only one incident of many. The worst part is the finances. Two weeks after my mother died, Ginger Cove removed money from my account to pay her bill, even though their contract specifically states that the money should have come from the entrance fee. Then the following bill had a credit on it. Three months later and neither my money nor the credit have been returned.

I believe we've been to Ginger Cove twice. It’s a wonderful facility and has a good operation. The people were extremely nice. We had a session where we had lunch and met some of the people who lived there. Then we went back and sat down with the marketing people and went with the whole process. They were very accommodating, we are still in their mailing list and gets information from them. They have all the amenities you might require as well. They really had a nice orientation. The only problem is we really love the idea of a community where there's all ages – from little kids to older people. That is the atmosphere that we prefer and unfortunately the place is a little bit isolated from the normal mainstream where people live.
