My dad is living in the assisted living section of Buckingham's Choice. I visit him him frequently. I have encountered staff that are caring, responsive, and VERY attentive to my dad's needs. I have lunch and dinner with him several days a week. The food is excellent. The building and grounds are well cared for. There are activities going on every day for those who want to keep busy. My dad especially likes the gym. All the amenities wouldn't matter at all if the care he received was sub-standard. That's not the case at all. The nurses and other staffers keep an eye on Dad. If he leaves his apt. Without his walker, someone will stop him in short order to get it for him. It seems like everyone knows him, and whether or not it's their responsibility, they will answer his questions, get him what he needs or just stop to chat with him. I feel so good knowing that he's in a caring and nurturing environment. Sandy T.

Very disappointed with this facility. Ready to contact the media. My parent had been in here for over a year. The food has gone downhill, cheap cafeteria food. The building is HVAC is poorly installed , thus the apartment is sweltering at 82 F , no recourse to adjust down. The Integrace Co. who has taken over is not responsive to any concerns of the residents. The Security staff recently was recently downgraded to Safety(?) status. They are no longer bonded and vetted, putting the residents at great risk. For the ridiculous price of the buy- in of over 1/4 million dollars, I find it horrendous to take advantage of the senior citizens who were dupped into moving in to this facility.

We have signed a contract for Buckingham's Choice. My dad is very capable and very mobile, but he is 81, and it is difficult for him to have my mother who is not terribly ambulatory. Other places, they could accommodate assisted living, but Buckingham's Choice is the only facility that would allow my parents to be in the independent situation, where you can bring in people for as long as they’re needed. In their current home, they have care coming in, but they work in blocks of time of two or three hours even if they’re needed for only 15 minutes. One of the nice things about Buckingham's Choice is that if Mom needs help with her medication or if she needs help getting a shower for only 15 minutes, they are only charged for 15 minutes. The facility is fully staffed and only charge for the amount of time they are actually there. It basically gives my parents the ability to live independently as long as it is safe. Then, they can transition into other various categories. What I particularly like about this facility is that the staff seems to know everyone instantly. As we walked around the halls with the marketing people, we passed by people they knew by name. I just found it to be a holistic and genuinely caring facility.

We were impressed by Buckingham's Choice. There were several buildings, and they had one-bedroom homes for people who were ambulatory. They had kind of a hotel large dining room. The staff were all very good and very attentive, and we were able to get everything that we asked for. We were very pleased.

My dad was in a rehab a while back for his heart. When we were sent to go to a rehab, I asked about Buckingham's Choice. When I found out that they only have two beds, usually for Medicare patients, and then I kind of knew that something must be up. It must be a very good facility. The room he has is not a great room at all because it is off to the back. But the quality of care is better than the room. The food is excellent. They have many activities like bingo and dance-exersice. You could dance in your wheelchair by just moving your body. They have different guest speakers and trips to go different places. It was very nice. What stands out is there is nobody that back-talks to you like the other places. Like if you would ask a question, and they will be defensive; Buckingham is never like that. If there is anybody that you know, I will definitely say that Buckingham's Choice is the way to go. I've done a lot of looking around, and that is the only place where I felt I would ever put someone again.

I visited Buckingham's Choice and they wanted an entrance fee of $165,000. I thought the staff was poor and I don't think they listened to me. They were so intent on selling the place that they did not listen to what I had to say. I did not have a meal there but I suspect it was average. I've been there twice and I'm not impressed. I just don't have gut feelings about the whole place. It looked like it was cheap.

This retirement facility certainly has a great location--it is off the beaten path, so a safe location, but near to a main route, so travel and visiting would not be too difficult. The setting is lovely and the grounds are well kept. I like that they offer many different options, for example, you only pay for assisted living or nursing care only if you use those services. I think many senior citizens are in the category of, while not completely infirm, they would like to use all the minutes of their day for enjoyment and not to laboriously handle household chores or shopping or cleaning or yard work. This facility seems to have it all. I visited to mainly consider one of the 80 apartments, which are certainly nice enough. I was a little put off by the lack of transparent price information on the website, but I think most retirement communities require you to request a quote rather than posting cost information. It is a country setting, so if your loved one is wanting to be downtown shopping and going to movies and museums, this facility is not for them. But if you have a senior who would love to be one with nature and not incur the noise of the city, this retirement community could be just what they're looking for.

The upstairs portion of this facility was very nice. This was where all of the fairly able-bodied retired people lived. Downstairs, however, was the assisted living section for patients suffering from dementia or in ailing health. It was very dark down here and locked away. The patients were often alone. I did not typically witness nurses caring for them. They seemed very lonely. The patient I was visiting on a fairly regular basis was suffering from Alzheimer's. Every time I went there (the times varied) I witnessed patients attempting to get a shower or medical attention, usually to the annoyance of staff. If I had a relative who was able to live fairly independently, I would be all about this facility. However, I would certainly not recommend it for anybody in a more serious condition who is being put downstairs. It is a rather depressing environment, despite weekly activities.
