We have chosen The Residence at Cedar Dell for my mom, because of its closeness to where we live now. It's right down the road from where my mother is living now, so it was very convenient. It's very clean, and the staff was very nice, they were excellent. The chef did give my mother a cake in a jar to try, but I didn't try it; she had it. There's no pool, but they have a patio outside where you can go sit at Adirondack chairs. They have bingo nights, wine and cheese tastings, movie nights, and things like that. They have music as well. The rooms are very nice, they have a small fridge and microwave; it's like a little studio apartment type.

The Residence at Cedar Dell was stunningly beautiful. It's a more upscale facility. The rooms were very comfortable, and they got a patio. They just couldn't take my sister in because of their age limitations. You have to be 62 years old and above, she's only 57, but they're the nicest place I've seen. The person who got to tour me was lovely too.

My mom has moved in to The Residence at Cedar Dell and it's probably one of the best quality in terms of living, food, but the more important thing for us at the time is that they had a memory unit and my mother needed to be in the memory unit. The staff is pretty good. I would like to see more regular communication and I am paying a lot of money so I actually expect that. They have exercise, road trips, music and they have a lot of options in the activity aspect so we're happy with that. They need to improve on better programs management and I pay a lot of money per month and I expect these things to be a lot more frequent, more communication to the family, me in particular.

I think in Cedar you had to spend time in the dining room, and they did in fact have a unit that had cooking facilities so that it’s possible to prepare something. It’s just that these places for our interest right now seemed to be a little of all of them. They were protective -- and that’s good -- but more protective than what we need at the moment. We actually put in an application for one of the residences which was a two bedroom, and then I guess we held that for a month and then decided that it was probably not our time for the assisted living. We saw a one bedroom, and it was very spacious, bright, and very appealing. If you are going to be out for the evening to dinner and you are going to be late like 8 o’clock, you have to let them know because they lock the doors; this is a security feature but it’s just something that I don’t really want to be announcing myself, and that’s just my particular preference. We were invited for a meal and we did not partake because we didn’t want to spend the time sitting at a table and being served, but their meals supposedly were very nice and there were people who were lining out to get in to the dining room. The people had favorite tables and wanted to be there, but they supposedly have a very good menu. We have seen the sample menu, and it was appealing. They did have a community room, exercise, hairdressing room, and a barber shop; they really fill most of the needs of the people, and those needs that were not met at the facility were considered to get transportation.

My parents have received excellent care from the caring and experienced personnel of The Residence at Cedar Dell. Initially, my parents were in the assisted living together. Then, my mom required more monitored care in the meadows unit. However, the staff encourages my parents to be together as often as possible to maintain their quality of life.
