My relative has been at Care One for approximately 3 months. They have mid stage dementia and the decision was a tough one but the right one. The staff has been top notch 99% of the time. The nurses are proactive and attentive. While they are still suffering from Covid staffing shortages these nurses and CNAs often pull double shifts with the same professionalism at hour 1 or hour 15 of their shift. The facility is almost always spotless unless right after mealtime. Crumbles happen. The rooms are throughly cleaned on a daily basis even empty beds are cleaned on a daily basis. Feel safe choosing this facility if needed. I have observed the staff give the same high quality care to residents who have zero visitors just like residents who have daily visitors. The rooms are bright and average size. The maintenance dept will gladly address any questions pertaining to a given room. The food appears to be good with several alternate options if your loved one is picky. They cater to dietary issues including gluten free. The activities dept has several scheduled activities daily and 3-4 times a month bring in live music.

I have been to CareOne New Bedford twice for short term rehab and could not be happier. Both times I stayed 2 weeks, once after a hospital stay. The rehab is amazing!! I didn't think I was ever going to get my strength and independence back but I did! The staff is friendly, happy, caring and professional and even the food was great! The building itself is clean and bright, so clean. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in need of rehab.

Do not place your loved ones here if they are not fully capable of advocating for themselves. My father was placed there and has some confusion. I, as his HCP, attempted to keep up on his care needs. The communication was spotty. Information I needed to make plans for his discharge was not provided in its entirety. This miscommunication resulted in additional cost to my family. My request for medical records (all the records) was made difficult and they were never provided (as is required in a timely manner by HIPPA). It’s difficult enough to care for loved ones without these issues. Communication is they key to a positive outcome for your loved ones.

Careone was always dirty and smells of urine and feces. I even saw feces spread all over the hallway when I was leaving one late afternoon and staff walking around it doing nothing. 80% of the staff could care less about the residents. When asked them to change my friend they would say we are short on staff and will get there when we can. That was always hours later or I had to go and ask again when no one would come. There were times no staff member even checked in his room on him or his roommate. It was so sad to see this go on for days, his family finally had to move him to a much better place. He is doing 100% better now in his beautiful and fully staffed home. I pray for all having to live at Careone in New Bedford. I pray the owner hires a new staff that actually cares about our elderly and their safety.

My cousin and I were recently challenged to find long term care for my 93 year old uncle just 6 weeks after the passing of his wife. We toured numerous facilities but Care One stood out as head and shoulders above the rest. It is deceptively understated compared to many of the other better known facilities but our decision to place our Uncle at Care One was a simple one after meeting with the staff and touring his would be room .
Let me start off by saying you will not find a more compassionate staff . Audrey, the Unit Manager is nothing short of an angel . Her patience , compassion, and patient centric approach is second to none. She made this heart wrenching process a seamless one for our family. And then there's Joanna , the Admissions Director, who systematically mapped out an admission plan at a pace that was comfortable for the family but necessary for my aging Uncle . No pressure, no phone calls, no stress- just concern and guidance, holding our hand through the maze of admissions paperwork and formalities. And on the 1st night night of my Uncles admission , she went above and beyond to call me on my cell phone and provide me with an update of his progress. Finally, Alisha (sorry in advance for the potential misspelling ) was our very 1st point of contact and our TRUE MVP ! On the day that my cousin and I showed up unannounced to "scope out" the facility . Alisha made herself available to us , as she not only provided us with an in depth tour but with a great degree of transparency she spoke about the pluses and minuses, strengths and weaknesses of the Care One facility. As a family we are blessed to have found a caring team that is so committed to the population they serve.
From a comfort perspective, the rooms are super spacious with built in shelves and drawers and a lot of light. It creates the environment of "home" away from home under the saddest of circumstances . The entire floorplan at Care One is hardwood versus traditional carpet , this eliminates the nursing home urine smell that was prevalent with other care facilities we toured .
The patients/residents really seem to enjoy the "snack carts" that deliver cookies or sweet bread twice daily . As a music lover, I sense that my Uncle will integrate into the Care One community as they offer entertainment options 2-3 times per week in addition to other activities.
On the day of my Uncle's admission , my cousin and I felt a range of complex emotions - guilt, stress, anxiety, sadness, etc.. - The Care One team did a great job of reassuring us they will follow in our family footsteps to ensure his safety, well being, and happiness. Our overall experience with Care One is excellent!

I had a really bad experience at the last rehab place I went to. It’s called New Bedford Health Care Center. I almost died there. I got MRSA after my surgery, my temperature was up, and I had brown fluid coming out of my back, and they weren’t doing anything about it. My daughter called a doctor in Boston, and they sent an ambulance. I don’t even remember my experience of even going there; I was so toxic. I had to have 2 other back surgeries, and I was in Boston for 3-1/2 months because of that. The surrounding was alright; the rest of it was alright. The rehab part, the exercises and that were good, and the meals were alright. However, I was not getting the proper nursing care and doctor care there.

I felt OK about New Bedford Rehab's rehab, but as far as the nursing home, I was not happy. I was dissatisfied. My aunt went there when she got diagnosed with cancer and the rehab part was very good. As soon as she took a turn for the worse and needed long-term care, the care was not adequate. I used to go daily and found her sitting in a wheelchair all day, which is not healthy. She ended up with a pressure ulcer.
