I went to Benchmark Senior Living at Woburn. I looked specifically at the memory care portion of it. Unlike some of the other facilities I toured, where they have regular assisted living and memory care, I felt like at Benchmark, they really value the memory care side of things and put a lot of thought and energy into it whereas at some of the other places the memory care side seems like a little bit of an afterthought.
The person who gave me the tour was named Drew and he was wonderful. We emailed a few times since then and he's just been great. He was probably one of the main reasons I liked the place as much as I did. The rooms were very nice. Compared to some of the other places, I didn't love that you have to furnish it yourself. It doesn't come with much in the way of furnishings, so that's an additional cost. I thought the facility seemed very clean and very comfortable. The memory side of things seemed appropriate for that level of care as far as not too much in the way of overstimulation. It was relatively quiet but well-lit and clean. I was there right after lunch, so the dining area was a little messy, but they were cleaning up. But it was a nice open space that had a little bit of a homey feel.
They had all sorts of things. They had live music that was going to be coming later in the day. They have an outdoor area where they can spend time in the garden, they have barbecues out there, and then there was a class going on when I was there, like a light fitness class. It seems like they have plenty of things to keep people busy.
