We looked at Chateau De Notre Dame. It's very, very nice and very well-kept. There are people everywhere. It's a Catholic organization. There's a really nice chapel there that they can go in and pray any time they want. They also have services. It's a very spiritual facility. It looks like everyone is very caring. The staff are very helpful. The one who assisted us (I don't know her name), but she's pretty much in charge of that section. She took us on the tour and gave all the information. We went back to her office and sat down, and she talked about everything a little bit further. She was very in depth. She gave more information that my friend would need as she would decide on that kind of stuff. It was way too costly.
One time I went there, they had a big group of Catholic high school kids that were playing games. They were doing some kind of bingo games or guessing games. Each patient looked like they had one or two teenagers assigned to them. They had a person leading the games in the front, and they were all having a ball. They were having a lot of fun and a lot of interaction with the teenagers. Another time I came in and there was music; there was someone playing the piano and singing. I looked at their calendar, and they have a full calendar. They do pedicures, manicures, and haircuts. It looks like they can schedule you into anything you want to do or able to do.
The room was nicely set up, and it looks like they take safety to the hilt as far as that goes. They have the bars and the handicapped things in the room. They don't have anything but a microwave and a refrigerator because they provide three meals a day with the plan.
It was nice, but I'm just not impressed with apartment living, and that's a huge place. It's very big. For $5000 a month, it's like 'you've got to be kidding me' for the rooms. There doesn't appear to be anywhere they can actually go outside and get fresh air on a regular basis. It's all building. That would be the biggest drawback I saw. If you're going to be paying all this money, at least have a way where you can go outside sometimes and get out of the building. All I saw outside in the front was where people would wait for their rides (for the people to pick them up, drop them off or whatever). They take people back and forth to their doctors; they do that kind of stuff. I only saw a small area they could sit in their wheelchairs or whatever outside in the front of the building. It's all gated, and it's safe. There was not much room for just to sit out and enjoy some fresh air with some trees or anything like that. It's too much concrete, and just nothing much there.
