The tour at Terrebonne Place was thorough and extensive. It was a nice place. It seemed really good. The staff was very nice and informative. She took all the questions I had and answered them as well as she could. She gave me more information. The one-bedrooms were nice. They were kind of spacious. The studio was a studio, but that's what's to be expected. The dining area looked like a restaurant. They didn't have anything going on at the time I was taking the tour, but I saw the calendar. They had some residents sitting in the common area watching TV. Everyone seemed really nice, and I liked the layout and the courtyards. I liked the fact that you can have a dog because my mom does have a dog, and they just seemed really helpful.
The staff at Terrebonne Place have been great! Kim, Candice, and the director Jay are always available when we need or have questions. They show compassion for their tenants and it shows in the extra things they do each day to make to them smile. All the staff including the nurses, aids, kitchen staff , housekeeping and maintenance staff always takes time to greet and make each tenant feel a part of the Terrebonne Place family.
What I liked the most about Terrebonne Place was that it was very clean, friendly, and had lots of things to do for the elderly. They have a band that they listen to. There are different games they can play in a specific area, and where they can hang out together too and have fun. The lady who gave the tour was wonderful. There's a patio, where they barbecue and play other games.
I enjoyed the staff at Terrebonne Place. When I went outside, the residents looked so happy. There's one guy doing his own thing with his plants hanging. It looks like a home, not just a place for them to live. They look like they're established there and that's their home. Everybody got along really well with each other for what we could see and that's important. When you're looking for something for your family member, you want to make sure they're not going to be rigid or unhappy and we didn't see any of that. My husband was with me when we went. It was very clean. It's older, but it's very spacious and well managed.
The staff was very helpful. We had quite a few questions and they just were right on it. If they didn't know, they went and found out and came back. They're just really attentive. When people would walk up and ask for something, they'd stop and work with that person. Even though they were trying to show us the place, they took care of the person that was there, and that really made a difference. There's a chef that cooks for them. We read some of the reviews of people that had been there and the rating was horrible about the way it looked and about the staff, but we didn't see that at all.
They've got almost anything you would want. They have a beautician and a barber. The only thing they didn't have was someone to take care of my dad's toes. He's a diabetic, so he would have to go to his own place for them to trim his toes. They have like a clubroom where they go in for the football games and stuff. They have men's night and women's night. I was amazed because it was just so much. The staff said some rooms were furnished, but dad's got his own furniture, and the studio was very small. It's the smallest studio I've ever seen. The rooms are smaller than anything we've looked at previously and they keep it simple, but I liked that place. I knew two of the people that work there, and one was the nurse who would work with my dad.
Terrebonne Place is less expensive than the other place we went to, but still costly. It seemed nice and with very friendly people. With COVID, they cannot let you into the cafeteria. The facility was well-kept and clean. It is located central to downtown and all other areas.
My mother has been at this facility for 15 months. The facility is on its third facility manager. Each manager is progressively worse than the one before. Good employees are rewarded with firing. The food is horrible. The current facility manager hides in his office in order not to have to interact with family and residents. The facility nurse also hides behind closed doors. The only reason my mother is still in the facility is the residents, who are wonderful and have, in spite of awful management, make the best of things and take care of each other. Corporate management ought to get a clue and quit firing the good people. How about asking the residents and the families who are at the facility all the time what is going on.
