Harry's daughter
My parents lived in St. James for quite a few years, my dad is still there. The place is pretty ideal for where to live in retirement, very good facility with many opportunities for a pleasant life. The best thing about it is the staff, they really make a effort and take good care of you based on the level of care. I notice one reviewer said otherwise and I have to say I was very surprised by that, I'm sorry if there was a bad experience for them but it may not have been anyone's fault. In Assisted Living they check in with my dad numerous times every single day to make sure he is well and whether he needs anything. In Independent Living, that is not the level of care that is expected, they give you more space unless you request help.

St. James Place was very inviting. The lunch was excellent. The apartments were very large and had a bedroom, apartment, and townhouse with a garage. It was absolutely gorgeous, but out of my price range. The people were very good. It was a good place with a homey atmosphere and lots of activities. It was very large and had different dining facilities and a chapel. Everything was there. It was the largest of the four facilities that I had seen.

Facility looks nice on the inside and out but the staff is horrible. My family member was grossly mistreated ( had 2 heart attacks and they did nothing till the next day) the staff is a revolving door never the same ones there and the ones that are there are only there for a paycheck, they could care less about the residents

I've heard about St. James from friends at work. The building itself is nothing like a nursing home. It looks more like a hotel, and it's a very nice building. They keep it clean. The staff is very attentive, and they treat my mom very well. They take good care of her, and they do lots of activities with her, too. They have a dietitian who works there, and they make sure that she gets the right amount of food that she needs. They keep track of her weight. They make sure she's gaining weight but not too much weight.
We chose to put her in a room with a roommate so she wouldn't be by herself. The rooms are large, clean, and they're freshly painted. There's a doctor who is there every day, Monday through Friday. There's a clinic, and people come in and see him. And if she has any issues, all we have to do is call the doctor and he can go up and see her.

I went to St James Place for a seminar and so I was able to visit the facility. They did show us around to the different rooms there. The bedrooms looked like they were of a pretty good size room. I just met the administrative people that showed us around and they were nice.

St. James Place fulfills all the needs of my mother. The care, from skilled nursing, to assisted living, all the amenities are all in one complex. Everything's been fine and they're taking care of her needs, the therapy for rehab as well as doctors on staff. It all worked out well. The rooms were fine. They provide all your needs, but you can bring your personal belongings there.

St. James place is a great place for the elderly to retire. Its located in a a great part of Baton Rouge where there is no crime problem and the grounds are beautiful. The staff at St. James Place are extremely nice and very welcoming. They always ask how the residents are doing and just make sure that everything is running smoothly. The elderly love taking walks around the property because the grounds are kept in such good shape. The kitchen does and great job of preparing good southern food and the dining atmosphere is like a nice restaurant. Overall its just a great place for any elderly person to be.

My grandfather spent the last two years of his life at this facility. He was a spunky old man and while at first he strongly felt the loss of independence he grew to enjoy his time here. The building and entryway, as well as the inside of the facility, were very nice and calming. It felt very open and well lit. The large foyer seemed more like a hotel to me than a hospital and my grandfather enjoyed that. The staff was probably the best I have seen at any assisted living facility. I think it was the relationships which my grandfather built with the staff that made his acclimation easiest. He kept a pocket book with their names written in it to help him remember, and when he would write me he would always tell me stories of what they had done with him. Because he was so incredibly socially minded, I think that had the staff not been helpful and kind, he would not have adjusted well to the setting. I remain grateful to them for the help they provided.
