The lady that showed us around Highland Ridge was extremely nice, and she showed us all the units they had available. The one that I selected had a lot of sunlight. The other ones were dark. It's a smaller facility, so there are not that many people walking around or people to talk to. It would be fine for someone that was from that area that had their own people coming in to visit them, but if you didn't know anyone, I don't know how well it would work. They had a menu, and you had selections for each meal. The outside had some bushes that had died, and the landscaping needed some help.

Highland Ridge was so nice, and they invited us back to try their food. They were very and the facility is just wonderful. I would like to stay there, and I think it would be preferable to being by yourself. The room and dining room were very nice, and we had snacks there. We took a tour, and there were some people sitting out in the patio area. I looked at their menus, and that was impressive.

My experience while visiting this particular assisted living facility was great. While my work experience has been in long term care, visiting this assisted living facility was a good insight into the assisting of our elders. Upon walking inside the facility I was greeted with a large lobby where they hold activities such as church and different seasonal parties. Then I noticed the dining room which looked very nice actually looked as if i were inside a restaurant and very clean. The residents have their own rooms and bathrooms. Some residents such as the married residents share rooms. The residents are able to sit and lounge on the porches or go for a nice walk with or without their pets. Some of the residents still drive but for the ones that do not, there is a shuttle bus that the facility uses for different outings so everyone gets to enjoy. Some of the residents are reminded to take their medicines but still take them themselves.Employees are there around the clock just in case of any problems and to keep things safe. It is a good place for a relative or a family member to live with out the worries of them being lonely. The residents can keep their independence and the resident's families can rest assure knowing that their family member is in a safe environment.

For this location, my grandmother had to stay here. She was not keen on doing so as she was an independent type of person and had much rather have stayed on her own. One of her daughters thought it was best and decided to check her in anyways. My grandmother was very upset at this. She did finally give in and stay at the facility. For the most part I don't think she had any qualms against anyone who worked there, it seemed like a fairly decent facility for what it was. My biggest concern at the time was their placement of wet floor signs. My mother who had went to visit her fell down and hurt herself after failing to see a we floor sign. I can only imagine what other mishaps could have occurred for the residents if this is how the facility was run. Needless to say the stay was too much for my grandmother and she was checked out.
