My visit to the Homestead of Olathe was fine. They're on one level, which is what we were looking for. Their hallways went in a square. It just didn't look as bright in terms of the lighting, compared to the other place we went to. My mother said she couldn't see, since the hallways are dark. They have activities like bingo, movie nights, cards, and puzzles. The dining area was a little bit brighter, but for some reason we didn't like it. It was a small community. The hallways seemed to be dark. The rooms were standard though. They had a big window in one of the rooms that they showed us, so it made it look a little bit bigger. One thing that mom liked about Homestead was the courtyard, where she could go outside.

My parents moved into memory care at The Homestead of Olathe South and it's been very good. It's a single level, secure memory care facility, and they have very good level of activities and a good community feel to the way the facility is operated. So far, my parents are very pleased with the food, the amount, and quality. They have a communal dining area, and they're doing fine with that so far. It has only been a week and they're getting to know everybody, so it's a good experience so far. They have an enclosed courtyard in the center of the facility that's very spacious, so if the weather's nice, the memory care patients can go outside anytime. The place was built in the 1980s, but it's very well-kept. There are daily activities and my father is taking part in some of them.

When walking into the facility you immediately notice the warm receptionists there to greet you and help direct you in whatever direction necessary. The building was actually quite smaller than most facilities I had seen in the past. The nurses seemed to be spread a bit thin even though there was a very limited number of residents, however the residents seemed to be getting taken care of well overall.
