We chose Evergreen Community of Johnson County (Johnson County Nursing Center) because it has a really high rating, and someone from our community recommended them. They take the residents on road trips or to restaurants three times a month. They also do bingo like six times a week, and they earn bingo bucks that they can use for shopping once a month in their little store that they have set up there. From 8:00 to 4:00, they have different activities going on, like singing, games, and stuff like that all day. They have a quick response time when you press the buzzer. It seems like a family community there. I think the food is good, and my parents like it. In their previous community, mom couldn’t choose a hash brown because they’re always fried too much but here it’s soft and it has a much better variety of food too. The staff seems very happy, pleasant, and friendly. There was one who visits my parents several times a day during the week. It’s also pet-friendly and there’s a cat that lives in the community for the residents. The place is built in a circle, and in the middle of that circle they have barbecue grill, tables, and chairs where the family can come and sit out and grill with them or sit around. There’s a pond with ducks and different things. I’m happy with all of it, and my parents seem to be happy there. It’s an older building but it seems safe and secure.

My dad lived at Evergreen for 2 years and received WONDERFUL care. Staff is kind and competent, not a lot of turnover or temps, and Directors are good at communicating. They let the resident live on their own schedule and everything is personalized. The facility is homey, not fancy. The only drawback was that dad had a roommate which didn't bother him a bit but his room was very small and it was uncomfortable for us when we visited. Evergreen worked great with dad's hospice provider and when he died, all the Evergreen residents and staff lined the hallway as a final send off. It was very moving and I will always appreciate everything they did for my dad.

This nursing home is now also known as Evergreen Community of Johnson County. It is definitely worth your time to take a tour. They take a unique outside the box approach to how they care for their patients and the flexibility they offer them. We looked at this place for my loved one and were really impressed with the staff, cleanliness and decor of the facility, and their approach on care. The only reason we did not place my loved one in this facility is because it was a little far for us to drive. Otherwise, this would have been our top pick out of about 6 or 8 places we toured.

My mom is currently staying at a nursing home right now, but we're actually looking for a place which is within our price range since the cost of where she's staying right now is getting out of our budget. I've visited this center and they have a large facility. The people were nice and accommodating. And the programs and services they have are affordable. Surely my top choice.
