We've made our arrangements, and we had our mother in a very nice nursing home. Actually, it is a nationally known facility here in Manhattan called Meadowlark Hills, and we were fortunate enough to be able to use some connections that we have here in town to make the arrangements. They are an exceptional facility. It is a complete campus with everything from retirement homes to assisted living to nursing facilities with doctors' offices, dental offices, and all sorts of personal hygiene facilities on site along with libraries, restaurants, clubs, coffee shops, etc. The facility is outstanding.

My folks have moved to Meadowlark. They have a "rest home" facility that is attached to the building, which is one of the cute things that my folks like. It is an older facility, and I wasn't really fired up about it, but they made the decision to move there. It is a nice place, but it is old and it is not exactly what my folks were looking for. However, they seemed to be OK with it. They did accommodate my folks well. They reconstructed two apartments into one for them. They have done a lot of things for my folks, so I can't complain.

When I visited my grandma she seemed overall pleased with the place which to me was a good indicator of the level of care since she herself used to be a nurse. The grounds were very well kept and what I saw of the interior looked very clean. Some of the aides looked kind of unpleasant although I didn't speak with them. And by unpleasant I just mean tired which I'm sure anyone would be that works so hard. My grandma said everyone attending to her was very nice. The food she said was decent though she hadnt had much of an appetite sfalling ill. There was I noticed, what seemed to be someone in training attending to her when I visited.. and while there was someone supervising her(the trainee) it still made me a bit nervous. I'm not sure that was discussed with my parents before they chose meadowlark for her recovery care. But overall everyone seemed really great.
